Re: Please make the planned "Highlight Enemies Red" optional

@BootStool Can you post a link?

If it’s a highlight like a ping, I can definitely understand that. I already stated that this game needs something like that cause the times I’ve seen a solitary enemy move his way behind my squad and they not noticing him until they’re dead is baffling.

If it’s just always... well I can’t even see that cause it doesn’t fit. If I remember correctly from my first time playing and seeing the control scheme I saw a ‘highlight enemy’ input. So it might just be that.

  •  It's listed in the Upcoming Patch section with Friend or Foe Identification saying people are having trouble telling friends and foes apart... which is really silly on it's own. But even if some people need the help with that, I rather not have to look at ugly red outlines or auras on the enemy team. I rather appreciate their goofy and adorable zombie or plant selves!

Thanks for the feedback, let us know what sort of FoF identifiers you'd like (if any).

  • @EA_David None please. This game doesn't need it. Part of the charm is the strategy you can use to be sneaky. I loved the sunflower hat in GW 1 for the foot soldier. It required a double take on an inexperienced plant's part to recognize the enemy.

Things that require in game player experience to know how to deal with them are a good thing. This type of thing needs played up. Not down.

Also, please put less invisible walls on rooftops and high locations in future maps. Being able to get to odd places and be sneaky was one of the best GW1 features.
  •  Personally, I'd prefer none. It does hurt most sneaky strategy styles for sure. Sometimes hiding in plain sight helps buy your team some time or allow you to get a drop on your enemies. Something to reveal you would really hurt any chance of pulling these off.

If it has to happen, I at least hope it's something I can toggle off. The game is beautiful and I really rather not see red outlines or aura all over the place instead of the beautiful setting and characters the game has!

I really don't want this at all. I also don't think we need this. If I miss an enemy due to not noticing them or the chaos of battle, it's just part of the game.

    This.

Please, PLEASE, do not add indicators to this game.  Myself and many gamers from GW2 forums asked for this to be removed.  Camping and targeting are only successful with indicators shown.

@Iron_Guard8 Nooo noo, this isn’t right. I don’t wanna do extra work because 1 enemy slips past 4 ppl of my team and nobody noticing!

Usually this scenario happends. One enemy gets past. And I’m not talking going way around by way of flanking. I’m talking about my team shooting and an enemy is like 2 meters behind them and walking past. And then as soon as he passed the last one... he starts firing but ppl in my team either aren’t aware or don’t care and then his buddies slso advance so a whole team gets sandwiched...

THIS is why I WANT a highlight. It doesn’t have to be a long highlight. Just like I either stated in this thread or another, a highlight indicating an enemy nearby for 2-4 seconds and then it goes back to normal.
  • @Koochi-Q  That's simply a awareness issue on your team's side or the enemy player out playing your team. Nerfing sneak attacks with a likely unappealing visual is not the solution to people failing to keep an eye out. This isn't a game where both teams have the same characters, the characters are very clearly a zombie or plant. Managing to sneak into the enemies line as the opposite takes timing, skill, and luck. Though part of me also wants to point out that if your team doesn't notice the All Star among the plant side now... I doubt a outline or aura would fix that. And even if it did, it's simply hand holding instead of teaching players to be aware.

Though again, I mostly am upset at the idea of gaudy outlines or auras ruining the beauty of the game. I rather not take a awesome screenshot to only realize some plant's outline stands out like a sore thumb or anything of that nature. Having a peaceful moment in Giddy Park with two zombie players I had been fighting for awhile was something I screen shot and enjoyed to look at. It'd lose a lot of it's appeal if they have outlines/auras all over them and ruining the world's vibe.

@BootStool I truly get what you mean. But I get so tired seeing an engineer or scientist getting past my team and I’m like ‘how teh f can you not see that ppl!’

It’s basically like every shooter where an enemy is in your base and your oblivious teammates are just standing there with their dumbs in their hole and getting killed...
  • @EA_DavidI was actually waiting for the FoF identifier, however after reading all these guys opinion I can understand why people are afraid of it.
However I do sometimes have difficulties identify between enemies and teammates. Mostly I identify enemies by checking if there's a health bar above them or not, though I notice that allies will sometimes show health bar too.
So I think the best solution is to show allies more clearly instead of showing enemies more clearly, also when showing health bars you can use other colors instead of red for allies. In this way there will be no harm to any sneaky strategy but help players to identify allies in a messy view.

Also I would like to point out that to make characters stand out more doesn't necessarily means we have to add a glow or some outline around it. If you consider some color and lighting theory you will know that by tweaking some colors and contrast we can help players to identify enemies, which is very much like how artist try to lead your attention to a specific part of the artwork.

  • Some games have a map that indicates where the enemies are. And have that so you can resize or not use. Then they wouldn't be messing with character art. And the people that can't tell that characters apart might have some indication of where they might be.

@EA_DavidI wouldn't mind having it, but maybe have it so those that don't want it can turn it off.

Those who don't want it... don't want it for everyone because it enables camping and targeting more than anything in gaming, period.  Graphic changes can be made to help the visibility of characters but adding enemy indicators will ruin the main thing many of us love about the game.

EDIT:  I've never gamed with many people posting in this thread and in no way would I insinuate anyone here is planning to use indicators in an exploitative manner.... but... that's why many of us dislike them.
