Re: Team switching

I had my first couple of really unbalanced BFN matches last night and this morning. I hope it was just a bad time of day/night to be playing, and not a sign of things to come...

In one game the matchup was 8 v 3, the other was 5 v 1. Not fun for anyone.

I have never understood why GW and BFN let people switch teams when there is an even match up.

Honestly, I would be fine if the game auto-switched me (or other players) mid-match if it noticed the teams were drastically uneven.

If they had "real matchmaking" and queue times to balance things out... Things might have been more enjoyable and fun for people with different skills. But there is no matchmaking which means you won't always have "competition" going on. It's either too easy or too hard, rarely in-between... Sometimes you're 3v6 and the game does nothing about that since GW1, even though they can try different things... This pattern is becoming boring across all PvP modes. Even in Team Vanquish, you notice the huge score difference. And it's not because hero ABC is OP or anything. The biggest problem is how the devs never talk about the issue or maybe even consider it an issue.

As for me, I always switch to attacking no matter what... I dislike defending... I got sick and tired of getting 2k objective score in most defense games, while my teammates usually get less than 1k. As soon as I die, nobody cares about the objective even though half of the team are around it and closer to it than me during overtime. All the hard work I've done to fight everyone on the objective while contesting goes to the garbage bin because nobody cares about it.

The problem with BFN is... People want to be one of the two factions no matter what.. Some people swear by that and always switch to zombies, for example, to play as Deadbeard or Super Brainz. Of course, they're not wrong; They enjoy those characters they're good at and they want to play as them. This is an asymmetrical game, and it's hard to get the same exact hero on both teams. Also, people have hero quests and challenge now... Forcing players to factions not of their heroes would result in frustrations.

They have to create an entirely new matchmaking and queue systems, and that probably needs a very long time to achieve.

    Cheers,

I've been saying this for awhile now. I know it was easier in TF2 as you didn't need XP in that game and we want to work on particular characters but I would say that having better balanced matches is more important. Getting team switched to the losing team when you were the Scout that just capped the briefcase and then got killed on the way back isn't the most fun I've ever had in an online game, but it's better for the longterm health of the game to keep things balanced. One way they could implement this is use the general experience system that World of Tanks uses where you earn XP that can be used on any vehicle so you can work on any character when switched (or at max level to be honest, that would be nice too).

I've also stated it before; the only time you should be able to team switch once a match starts is if you're on the larger team and change to help balance the match. Winning by a complete blowout is boring, losing to such a blowout is frustrating, the best matches are the hard fought, down to the wire nail-biters, whether you win or lose.
