@Final_Zidane If it was so easy to get max rank in GW1, then why didn't you do it? I'm just curious.
Well since you made it personal...
For me personally it was a matter of problems with my Xbox360. Seeing as EA didn't feel the need to be able to transfer accounts from one console to another. (Or if they did I could find any info on it.) Xbox360 dies, upgrade to PS4. (Didn't get the PS4 GW1 because I didn't want to restart 100's of hours of game play.) Years pass and GW2 is now on sale. My brother picks it up and we start playing. (This is about four weeks ago.) I was outside the promotion the day I bought the game. Yet the transfer is advertised everywhere. In the store, in game message, EA's help site. Surely, there is cause for confusion/frustration.
As for the first game, I was in the 200 range before my Xbox died but with one key distinction, I had not used enough skip star to earn the Consume This Too achievement. To me the point of the game was to play it, not spend skip stars to zoom through it. I completed the sticker book, put in hundreds of hours of playtime, stayed through all of the expansions. (I was even max rank twice up until the Zomboss Down DLC.) What bothers me is the arbitrary line used to define loyalty.
The reason why the Unicorn Chomper is an issue is because it is a variant, a playable character. It is not a special rank plate that says you hit max rank, its not a special cosmetic that can be put on any class. This is particularly bothersome because GW1 and GW2 revolve around the sticker collection. If it was any other shooting game it likely wouldn't matter. Plenty of games have limited promotional items and most of them don't get this level of complaints/criticism. But, EA has handed us a blank book and said fill it up. Only then they say, I'm sorry you can't because you failed to meet our expectations. I wouldn't care so much if it wasn't a focal point of the game. To add to this, the game's primary audience is younger children. For an M rated game you can offer limited incentives and adults will get it if they want it or ignore it. Children don't think that way, they see they don't have something and they want it. (While I don't have any kids this is a common issue in the many Unicorn Chomper threads.) Finally, this game isn't an MMO, people shouldn't be chained to their console in fear of missing a promotion. Yes, I acknowledge this one was a year long but, what about alternate RUX abilities? What about seasonal items, and portal items? (I missed something in GW1 because I was out of town for a week on vacation.)
I could go on, but after looking into the Unicorn Chomper these last few weeks it seems to me that the only people who got cheated are the "loyal" customers. I am beginning to feel sorry for them.
