Recent Nerf/Buffs Review

After the dlc there has been a few adjustments that I feel like I should express my opinion on. Feel feel to express your opinion on the recent nerf/buffs in this game.

All-Star:

All of the nerfs are decent and the buff on the rugby player was a good thing to do, but what about the rest? I feel as though the other All-Stars could've used some tweaking as well.

Cactus:

Power Cactus finally got some love from EA and Fire Cactus got toned down a bit which is awesome news to hear. The Camo Cactus got nerfed down a bit and I thought that it was just a small nerf, but it wasn't. The Camo Cactus now does only 33 damage to the body and 66 on a critical spot and it shoots about 15-25% slower than it usually does. This nerf went way too far and only made the Future Cactus way better than the Camo Cactus and maybe even the Power Cactus is better now. You can even compare the dps between the Future and Camo Cactus-Future with a higher dps now of course.

Chomper:

The buffs were really good nothing wrong in this aspect.

Doom Shroom:

Pretty good, nerf gives you about 1 second to escape the blast radius which is good. Hate it when I use rocket jump or warp and then there's a doom-shroom waiting to blow me up on a moments notice.

Engineer:

Thank you for that Plumber nerf.

Pea Shooter:

Pretty good, helps new players to not make mistakes by pressing the hyper twice. Ice Pea definitely needed that buff. Happy new players? Toxic Pea has finally got nerfed for you people. Now you know what's taking it's place? The Berry Shooter. The Berry Shooter is basically like the Toxic Pea just without the Toxic affect. Hope you people like fruit being tossed at you other than toxic peas.

Update: The Berry Shooter also has a higher dps than the Toxic Pea which makes up for no toxic effects and much more.

Scientist:

The nerf on the Chemist was ok since the Chemist was dominating a little in PvP. Why nerf the default scientist? Was he that difficult to beat because there's not many people that use the default scientist anyway and I rarely ever die to one. This nerf was incomplete because since you nerfed the Chemist, the Marine Biologist is now the more dominating class now. EA, if your gonna nerf one powerful scientist, then nerf the other one next time will you.

Foot Soldier:

Camo Ranger's nerf was perfect. Now the Camo Ranger is a bit more equal to overused Foot Soldiers like the Tank Commander. Pretty nice buff for the Arctic Trooper.

Sunflower:

I didn't know that the Fire Flower was that bad that it needed a buff to damage.

Rating: too many nerfs...nerfs never solve anything and will just lead you back to square one: complaining & arguments...

I totally agree with you on the cactus thing.

  • Just going to reply directly from class-to-class instead of quoting the whole thing.

All-Star: Agreed here. The Hockey/Baseball star should definitley see a buff to their pre-overheat time and perhaps damage. 3 seconds with a difficult-to-aim weapon before cooldown is not very good along with their lackluster damage towards the original All-star. The wrestling star could use a slight buff to fire-rate as well.

Cactus: The Camo Cactus can still two-shot and instakill non All-star classes on full/half health from all ranges, so I think she is still(now) pretty balanced. (Definitley the instakill on half health, god I hate that.) The issue with the Camo cactus is/was that she, like I said in the Berry shooter thread, that she as a whole throws off the flow of the game. Her insane range and damage makes you able to pick off players miles away while most other classes, more importantly the zombies, are mostly close/mid combat based.

She is also still balanced towards the Future cactus because her charge slows the future cacti down, takes time to prepare and makes her a flippin' light bulb to everyone. The Camo cactus could simply stay hidden and put out almost the same burst damage to no loss other than her somewhat reduced effectiveness at closer encounters.

On another note: Freeze in Hell, Fire cactus. 😕mileytongue:

Chomper: Nothing to say here. Two weaker variants got a buff. Everything is good.

    Doomy: Agreed.

PeaShooter: Agreed. And, uh. NERF ALL DA BERRY SHOOTUHZ. DO IT NOW!!!1!oneone

Scientist: Scientists nerf was as you said very un-needed. To do that massive 80-ish damage with the goo blaster the player needed to stand right beside an enemy plant which definitley justifies the risk and slow fire-rate the stock Scientist currently has. (The dolphin blaster can do more DPS as it is, so...) Chemists nerf was eh, didnt really see it much at first as a now PC player. But I have felt alot that his range was nerfed a small-but-lethal bit along with the cone tightened which makes him a bit annoying to use.

Also the Astronaut(wut?) can be really terrifying on PC. Trust me.

Foot Soldier: Havent checked out Arctic trooper yet. Camo Ranger now feels a bit lackluster but still stands up to punch, everything thats left now is the Super commando which does need a slight nerf to his damage output.

Sunflower: Fire flower is really annoying with the fire status effect as it is, she shouldnt have gotten a damage buff. Something as powerful as fire shouldnt even be on a healer class, even if it does make a funny reference or two.

    That is all.

Hey guys, it may comfort you to know that you've been heard. Read this tweet from Chris Fox, game designer at PopCap: :smileyhappy:

Thanks to everyone who reached out to me with balance feedback today. We hear you! (especially about the Berry Shooter)

  • I have a great idea for the game designers....

Put the game back to how it was and let us enjoy it!!!!

If it aint broke it don't need fixing.

What characters do you enjoy playing?

I personally like to use characters that could potentially be the best characters in each class. Basically the ones that some-little play. No character can be the best in this game however, except for the Berry Shooter for now, but my 'best characters' I use helps me when it comes to my playstyle. However, there are a couple of characters that are just terrible can't possibly be an opinion at all.

    Plants:

    • Law Pea = Highly powerful, but requires excellent accuracy to even use decently.
    • Count Chompula = Like eatting people so why not get a reward for it instead of coins?
    • Metal Petal = I only use Sunflowers outside of G&G since I can do better than supporting the team with healing and some damage in G&G.
    • Camo Cactus = Really good, but sort of stands out from the rest of the Cacti. I personally wanted this nerfed down a bit. EA did the nerf, but went way too far to keep the Camo Cactus balanced. Now am debating whether I should stick with Camo or go use Future Cactus now.

    Zombiez:

    • Camo Ranger = In case the plants try to camp from afar, which is most of the time...
    • Painter = Never use the Engineer class that much, but if I do, this character would be my preferred choice.
    • Chemist = When the plants are in a group, I just annihilate them with this guy.
    • Baseball Star = Just to support the team or in case the Chemist can't take on some kind of group in G&G.

I like characters that require precision with the exception of Chemist and Count Chompula.

Sidenote: Thanks for that information @EA_Francois.
