Spawnable discussion: ice shroom, ice peashooter, and Mr. Freezy

Iceshroom, Ice peashooter, and Mr. Freezy

Iceshroom

Gw description:

Lets out bursts of icy-coldness, freezing nearby Zombies where they stand.

Close range pot that applies a freeze effect.

Has 80 health and attacks with ice blast which deals 30 damage and instantly freezes any zombie except any boss that isn't disco or baron von bats. Can pierce through walls and objects in radius though is rare to happen on certain maps.

Has snow shroom variant in gw1 that looks like a snowman: The snow-shroom is the Ice-shroom's long lost cousin from the North Pole.

Ice peashooter

Gw1 description: He freezes Zombies in place, showing off how "cool" he is. Plants just roll their eyes.

Has 50 health and shoots the ice pea cannon. Applies freezing damage.

Deals 18 damage with 12 splash (less regular but higher splash than regular pea cannon). After so many hits (4-5 direct hits I believe) his target is frozen in place.

Ironically, while a Build-a-Bot variant is introduced in gw2, Ice Peashooter is not an obtainable potted plant in the game.

However, in the mission "Death Alley" for the Zomburger Delivery Challenges, 2 of these plants appear, and are able to shoot the player. Popcap simply mustve not been able to create adequate counterparts to the 3 cut gw1 plants in 2 but still had the assests.

Mr.freezy

Gw2 description: Mr. Freezy's patented Brainz Freeze machine is delicious and refreshing.

Has 70 health and is a long range freezing pot.

Shoots the freezer burn weapon which launches slowing snowballs. It fires one shot every half a second three times before reloading (slower than rocket bot), and each shot does 10 damage while slowing opponents. Five successive shots will freeze the target.

Despite being ice peashooter counterpart ice peashooter never appears in gw2 as a pot.

Has Mr. Freezy egg variant: This

Brainz Freeze machine is eggstremely cold.

The Brainz freeze mentioned in his description also appears on several zombie ice-cream-trucks that appear on maps like the Backyard Battleground and Zomburbia.

There's not a single character I don't like here.

Ice shrooms damage and freeze allows him to perfectly stall or destroy zombies near the garden and his relatively decent health for pot often keeps him alive until health comes as zombies usually focus the garden anyway as,I was able to have one stay alive as the only pot besides a gloom shroom till wave 9 on hard (frosty creek). Supposedly he was suppose to return in bfn with iceberg lettuce since popcap seemed to finally be able to program freezing in again. I doubt he would've been useful due to the poor positioning in bfn taking him away from the garden and the hit detection likely not working like other pots. Not too mention bfn pot ai can't find zombies approaching from the side which kinda kills ice shrooms chance at freezing them before its too late. I also nearly forgot that tv head would absolutely destroy him.

Ice peashooter was great in gw1 especially since you could pair him with the fire peashooter pot to maximize the freezing/burning damage powers. He feels balanced with his damage being lower than regular pea cannon but his ice powers more than make up for it.

Mr freezy has bit more health and fires more projectile in a span of time but its balanced out by his lower fire rate and damage (he's not equal to rocket bots 10 damage each in a burst fire) Both him and ice peashooter are viable on both the front lines and near the base unlike ice shroom who is much more effective at the garden.

  • Ah, the freezing guys. So very useful, so embarrassing to deal with at times! Getting frozen by an ice shroom only to be taken out by a nearby plant player right after is more common than some may think back in GW!

They should have kept ice and fire peashooters in GW2. I really don't mind some function/elemental overlap with other characters, and is the same reason I'd not have minded the engineer keeping his drones from GW while still having the big bolt blaster as an option in GW2.

While freezing can be super annoying to deal with, none of these are as bad as some of the ice character variants can be (like frozen citron as one example). Even ice shroom, since you have to be close for it to get you.

I have a ton of the 2 elemental peashooters in GW, I keep getting them out of packs like crazy for some reason.

@Iron_Guard8I would've loved for the 3 cut plants to stay in gw2 but atleast we got electrical and toxic defenders out of it so its not a total loss unlike bfn thanos snapping half the roster.

Here's hoping engineer gets his drone back as an alt to bbb. Heavy helper can burn tho.

I think there not annoying because they're single shot characters and not automatics like frozen citron and artic trooper (luckily there long range capabilities are pretty pathetic and frozen citron is annoying beacuse he's ice combines with the annoying abilities of citron) snow pea is the definition of i can't aim so I'll use splash but run out of ammo before I freeze someone (i should know because I'm one of them) Ice cactus is pretty rare and I actually hold a lot of respect for frost rose players and yeti chompers are a mixed bag of godlike and terrible.

Gw1 gave out fire and ice peashooters like they were going out of style amd I've got more of them than regular pea cannons.

  • As I have not played GW currently, I will not cover any Pots that only appear in GW as I am not particularly familiar with them. I do wish that GW2 contained all the Pots that GW did, as I would have really liked to try them out (I could try GW on PC) but instead we got Bots and new Pots, which is cool to have. After all, I would really like to see a Bonk Choy Pot send an enemy flying. Anyway, I will cover the other summonables now.

  • Slow down with these summonables!

    Introduction

The Ice Shroom and Mr. Freezy are summonables that can slow down or freeze enemies, which makes them unable to move, attack or use their abilities. These summonables work in a similar fashion, but at the same time work quite differently to each other. The Ice Shroom uses an icy wave close range attack that deals good damage and freezes enemies that are caught in the blast, while the Mr. Freezy can shoot at enemies with a decent range, and it does not deal much damage to enemies, but whenever it deals damage to enemy it slows it down, and eventually freezes it after enough hits. These summonables have decent health and are really good for getting easy vanquishes on slowed or frozen enemies.

    My Thoughts

These summonables are quite powerful and their slowing and freezing effects can make them tricky to deal with. Any enemies they freeze or slow down can be vanquished quite easily to their significantly increased vulnerability. The Ice Shroom has the power to instantly freeze enemies and deal good damage, while it is limited to close range. The Mr. Freezy has good range and has a good fire rate, and can slow down enemies every time they are hit, and will eventually be frozen. The changes I would suggest include reducing their health slightly, slightly improving the time enemies are frozen or slowed for and to give them a lower cooldown between between attacks.

I would give these summonables a Hard difficulty to defeat overall. However, this being said, it could absolutely depend on the situation. The freezing and slowing effects can be difficult to deal with due to increased vulnerability, and along with the damage they deal as well, they can really become a threat. If you are frozen, you can be freely attacked by any enemy, including these summonables, and you will not be able to fight back. If you are slowed down, it will be harder to escape or avoid attacks. Try to shoot them down quickly and keep a good distance away from them to negate or reduce their threat to you, and if you get slowed down, try to utilise or get to cover to let the slow effect wear off on its own.

None of these summonables appear in Battle for Neighborville, but if they were in the game, I would give them a cooldown of about 5 minutes each. It is a lot easier to vanquish enemies if they have been frozen or slowed down first, due to their increased vulnerability. The freeze and slowing effects are really useful, so limiting how often these summonables can be used will prevent players from overusing these summonables as they can be difficult or even frustrating to deal with in some situations. They would generally only deal damage or freeze a single enemy at a time, but they have the capability of being able to slow or freeze multiple enemies quickly or in rapid succession, so limiting the frequency these can be placed will help.

    In A Future Shooter

These summonables can really be useful and could most certainly appear in a future shooter. The freeze and slowing effects are a great help with being able to make enemies much easier to vanquish. I actually suggest that they would have an unlock cost of about 5,000 Coins each, as they are quite powerful, and they could require an unlock cost of 20,000 Coins each, but you could receive 5 of these summonables to get you started, as well as a discount upon the unlock. This will make them quite hard to obtain and use, especially in large numbers, but because of how useful they are, these costs should be adequate.

    Overall

These summonables are great and are really useful in most circumstances, so I would imagine that they would be quite costly to get, especially in big quantities, and have an unlock cost attached to them. They already do their tasks well, so changes I suggest include giving them slightly less health, slightly increase the time enemies get frozen or slowed for and to slightly reduce the cooldown between each ot their attacks, as it will discourage enemies from engaging with these summonables at closer ranges especially.
