The screen is stopping the PC. The MONITOR.
Not everyone plays on a 15" monitor at 1024x768.

I use 1600x900 personally, but that's not the way the industry looks at it.
The industry looks at it as "Not everyone uses a monitor big enough to warrant a split screen option." One of my friends uses a triple monitor setup with proper wide screen displays and he agrees that split screen for PCs is a stupid idea.- 10 years ago
So, the ones that do play on a TV must suffer because not everyone plays on a TV?
Of course playing split screen across 3 wide monitors would be stupid. However, playing with 2 friends, each with their own monitor doesn't seem so bad. Or maybe even 6 players, each with a split screen.
Doesn't seem as if it would be THAT hard to implement, you really only have to render the world once, and then have the multiple viewpoints of the players.
A proper PC can handle 4 games, running simultaneously. Linus has done it with 7.

I think you are showing your age here. Back in the day when the grown-ups wern't so grown up, we had SEGA Mega Drives, SNES, Playstation 1 and a very small old school TV with RGB / AV adapters. Even back then when the TV's were far worse and far smaller than today's standard, we had split screen.
Technology has moved forwards in leaps and bounds in the entertainment industry but ensuring a healthy community of gamers has taken a huge step back. Local-split-screen was fantastic and still is and i for one am bitterly disappointed that it's not on the PC. I run at 1440p (2560x1440) using SLI GTX 980 Ti cards and i know for one i could handle split screen, triple screen or quad screen and the machine would STILL run the game.
I hope it comes in a later patch but this is still SLOPPY from Popcap/EA.
