Quinn's Aquarium -- Can't purchase powerups with Gems

Hello, I have been playing Quinn's Aquarium and when I click on Add Slot, it goes to the purchase screen but throws error "Sorry, there was an error purchasing your item. Please try again." when you try to purchase the slots. The game gives no other errors or trouble at this time.

Also received some messages from a Pogo Official account that issued several large amounts of Gems to my account. Maybe related?

Exact same thing is happening to me. I also received three messages about restoring some missing gems. When I checked I had 2,000 extra gems in there. I was going to contact Pogo today about it but the gems have now been removed. Now I'm also receiving the same error message. Was Pogo or EA hacked?

Gems were given and taken away to most Pogo players, along with an email(s) from Pogo_Spike.
At the bottom of your Pogo screen you should see this alert.
At this time, this is the only annocument that has been given to players:
