Club wars - Feedback

No idea how any of you are even playing club wars anymore, in our last club war a couple days ago, the lag was so bad, the the game in general was so buggy we literally had club members sitting through frozen screens for 5 minutes, 1 person waited 2 hours and finally force killed the game and restarted because none of the repairs would respawn after the supposed 5 minute delay.

From my club's standpoint this game is dead.

Are you seeing this issue all the time or only during the war games?

We have been seeing a fair amount of performance issues across all club members all types of devices since the December snow flake update in general.  When we are actually in a war though it gets about 2X worse.

This past week is the first time people were talking about outright force killing and restarting the app - just to get the war repairs to work because they were "stuck" in a perpetual 5 minutes.  And at least half my club have opened support tickets, we've all been told the same thing... our devices are too slow or too old (not sure how my gaming tablet fits that definition - but that is all support will ever tell any of us).... before the December update when in war, there were performance problems, but most of could muddle through them.

At this point, the performance/lag - is so bad, people can't scroll through a store without buying something and watching the screen freezes for several seconds at a time.  Or just periodically the whole app stops for 3 to 5 minutes.. then if on apple crashes, and if on android eventually recovers.

So like I said... dunno how any of you are playing war... at one point we were in top 200 - but at this point, none of us play much anymore. It's more like - check in 1 or 2 times a week, see if any updates have made the game playable again... occasionally someone in my club really wants to get his CoM war points, so we start a war, but none of us really take it seriously anymore.

Too bad, been playing this game for over 2 years now, and in the past 2 months, they've made it unplayable for nearly everyone in my club.

PV: I've heard of it (attacked while in the bubble), but not seen it first-hand.

I just had a club member help me fix my game lag (which was so bad the game was essentially unplayable).

I simply had to reinstall the game.  Now it works smoothly.  I'm kicking myself for not doing so earlier...

Make sure your data is backed up somehow before you reinstall.  Good luck.

*** I had to go through the initial game start-up tutorial again before I was able to re-load my saved city data, but this only took a couple of minutes and it's been well worth the small effort to have the game work smoothly once again.

About the Club War, you really need to change the way how it works. Many Clubs uses one single strategy, to bombard as much as possible in the beginning and then when they get bombarded, they stay under the shield all the way. That really takes away the charm of this Club War. I suggest two improvements, increase the reward when a club reaches more than 100 000 in the Club War, that will promote more openess. Also apply less rewards, even penalties to the winning team if they have been inactive for a long period before time is up, or at least something that gives more excitment to the Club War. /Boe

I hate clubs that sit under shield for most of the war as much as the next person.  But, there are some things that are within our control that can influence whether or not a club has to endure a long boring war where the enemy hides under shield.  Here is what you can control:

• You control when war starts, more importantly, when the attack phase starts.
  • Therefore, you should discuss in your club what is the best time that works for the most people?
  • Once you agree on this time, then people have to be committed to be around near the first moments of the attack phase
  • If your club is active, you won't fall behind.
  • If you don't fall behind, then your opponent won't be in a position to sit under shield all war for a victory.
• You can control how frequently you war.
  • Some clubs initiate a war the very first second they are able to (12 hours after last war finishes)
  • Some clubs initiate a war at the same time of day each cycle (24 hours after the last war finishes)
  • Some clubs only war once a week.
  • Controlling frequency should help your members be able to know when they need to be active -> again, so you hopefully don't fall behind quickly after the start.
• Do you overkill, or do you kill with the exact amount of energy needed to shield the enemy city?
  • How you go about attacking can greatly influence whether or not you enable your enemy to get an advantage over you and then hide.
• You control how many members are in your club.  Do you have less than 25 members?  Less than 20?  Less than 15?
  • If you face clubs that have more members than you, and you find yourself falling behind in score because they as a club have more energy to use than you, and then they stay under shield once they have gained the advantage, well...
    • It is in your control to recruit additional members so that you don't routinely face opponents who have more energy than you do.

So while it is still frustrating... SUPER FRUSTRATING... when enemies hide and don't allow a fight to continue, there has to be at least SOME responsibility borne by yourselves.  

If you are a club that starts slow or has a smaller membership, then you are likely to experience many wars where your enemy gains enough advantage over you to hide their way to a win.  Quite frankly, if your club is 100% active, attacks strategically (by using/not using overkill properly), isn't outnumbered by more than one or two, and you still find you spend more than half the war with the enemy ahead and hiding under bubble from you, then, I'm sorry to say, you've just been outclassed.  Not much you can do about it.

First, solve that problem due to a slow start or small membership.  Then, let's develop ideas to fix any problems that might remain.

@ModernThinker great suggestion... others I know had already done this, they said things got faster for a couple weeks then got bad again.

Anyway, I tried it... it works... my game (on a Nvidia Gaming tablet) was lagging so bad, I lost interest in playing the game.  I deleted there entire game, rebooted, reinstalled, and eventually played until I could restore from facebook, and yes... SimCity is back to a playable game.

In effect the "delete the game" and reinstall, and then restore... means every single file on your (and now my) device is the current version of the game now.

But for this problem to happen at all... means the December update, 1 or more functions that used to be say in file1, file2, file3, sort of thing... were moved to file4, file5, file6... the developers however did not instruct the update to delete file1,2,3.   Which means multiple versions of the same function existed because both the old - obsolete files were not deleted, and the new replacement files were a new name.

So as for you "kicking yourself"... I'd say, we all should get a round of kicking EA as their developers obviously have no idea how to properly maintain a game.

This also implies anytime EA puts out an update to this game, we may all need to delete the game and reinstall each and every time.  sigh.

Anyway, thanks again for recommendation.  I've passed it on to my club in general, a few people I have also on facebook in my club, said the whole app hasn't even finished loading for 3 days now, so I'll just tell them to delete and try reinstall.
