I have the exact same problem. I've never participated in wars but the prompt now forces me to enter the war screen, where I get the message that I have not collected enough points to score rewards. I cannot click OK and so I cannot play the game at all now, because it always forces me down the same path to the same problem.
The only thing I can do is play offline to avoid ever being forced to open wars. But then all the other functionalities I like are also unavailable.
This bug is only happening since the Winter Holidays package update.
I'm am now as of today in the exact position as you and cannot proceed to play as the prompt forces me to enter the screen....
