Help! My mayor contest has frozen!! Last challenge before going up a league, and i was in the lead too :-(
Have reloaded the game, still frozen. Any suggestions?

I received notice that the Mayor's Challenge started. This would be my first mayor's challenge as I am a newbie to SimCity BuildIt. I accessed the tower and followed the prompt to select the "metals" Assignment and that's as far as I got. That portion of the game is now frozen. Can't access the menu items to see the game rules either. And it did not record my manufacture of metals.
I submitted a report via their contact email. I'm hoping to hear from them. I will check back here also in case they resolve it here.
Ok, let's try to figure out if you did everything properly.....
First, you have to accept an assignment.... Let's assume you chose 'Collect 20 Steel'
Once you 'confirm' your choice you can proceed to the next step, which is to produce the 20 steel. NOTE: You CAN'T buy steel from the market, YOU MUST PRODUCE IT.
Since steel only takes a minute to produce, you can either fill all 5 slots of one of your industries and repeat that 3 more times to get 20 steel, OR, you can use 4 industries of 5 slots each which produces all 20 pieces of steel in one minute which satisfies the assignment. I prefer the second option.
Then you return to the Mayors Tower and collect your reward. Then you begin another assignment and repeat the above.
Hope this helps in the event you were doing something wrong.
- I did read the brief how too's and knew I could not purchase steel, and had to manufacture it.
It stated "Produce and Collect (0/3) and had a Start Button. I can't recall what color it was. It's replaced with a big gray X. According to the instructions, it should be a red X -- in case I want to abandon that particular task.
Once I clicked the start button, every aspect of the Neighborhood League became inoperative. Even the menu list to the left. I cannot choose another option in the list. The only "button" that works is the blue return button in the lower left hand corner. - Meant to add that I produced three steel. Assuming that is what the 0/3 meant for me to preduce. It never acknowledged production of the materials. I left the game completely and restarted thinking it waa frozen. It was the same when I reopened the game.
I will try a reboot to my tablet and see if ut may be a cache problem .... just to try and cover all the basis. You need to produce 3 nails, not 3 metals.
Anyway, from looking at your screenshot, the contet is frozen for you. You should be able to click the menu or to cancel the active assignment.
The same thing happened to me in the previous contest , everything was grayed out and the only explanation i got was that there is a maximum number of assignments, that is not your case, that is your first and you have 9 assignments left.
