Thoughts about "boosts"
I am really trying to figure out why "boosts" are being as some sort of new exciting feature, when in reality, they are just.... pointless.
A) Mayor's pass points boost - the "boost" ends roughly about ten days after this current season ends. The first week of next season will have the the tightest mayor's pass progress limit of all four weeks. So, this boost will give you a 50% boost for earning mayor's pass points... which means players are just going hit the progress limit sooner.
My thoughts: this is really not any sort of game benefit. Players who earn the boost will just hit the limit sooner and more players will complain about the limit. This is a worthless "boost" and I think it is a complete waste of time, I'm angry that EA spent time developing this when they could have been fixing bugs and glitches in the game.
How it could be better: Perhaps adjust the boost to increase plumbob points earned as opposed to mayor's pass points. But I think this boost is just going to cause people to complain period.
B) Seasonal Currency Boost - This boost does dramatically increase the amount of pumpkins one can earn... but that's just it. The amount of pumpkins needed to convert into the other currencies is incredibly expensive for extremely stingy conversion rates for the two coins. I know why it's set up the way it is, clearly the developers are attempting to increase the amount of time players spend in the game.. question is why? If you want to increase revenue from players watching ads or spending money.. how about actually incentivizing players to want to watch ads and spend money. It is NOT rocket science.
My thoughts: this is a decent boost, but it's potential is limited by exceptionally stupid stingy cheap conversion rates for seasonal currency, and it's clearly an attempt at a cash grab by the developers.
How it could be better: just remove seasonal currency, it was never a great concept and somehow EA makes it WORSE every round.
C) Rail currency boost - This boost will increase rail coin earnings by 20%... which sounds impressive on paper, but in practicality, this is probably the worst boost of the all. To really benefit from this, a user would have to dispatch trains at a heavier rate than they currently do, but we run into issues such as rail bank currency limits, or in the cases of some, not having many trains unlocked / upgraded. And the amount of work needed to earn this boost is ridiculous.
My thoughts: this is just a gimmick, trains are a half baked idea that were already messed up seriously. This boost may benefit some, but overall, I don't anticipate many people will complete the season collection specifically for this boost.
How it could be better: just don't bother. Waste of time.
In the end, I am incredibly disappointed with the state of the game. Clearly the approach with everything added to the game as of late is clearly done to drive players to spend money. Nothing that is added is fun, and the fact that things such as a buggy glitchy game that requires a lot of currency grinding to convert season currency are marketed as "fun" just goes to show how out of touch EA is with what their players want.
I encourage EA to stop adding features to the game. You miss the mark every single time anymore. Truth be told, I think the game should be sold to another developer / publisher that will actually listen to players. If that doesn't happen, I think EA should identify a handful or ten players of different background to use as consultants on proposed gameplay features - and I don't mean as testers, I mean as a way of getting input from seasoned players BEFORE spending time developing and implementing features.
