worth playing yet?

I just looked at the update forums and looks like nothing has been patched since 3/22, which is also the last time I played the game.  The patches up to that point didn't really fix anything, IMO.  I lost my desire to play and probably won't get the desire back even if new patches fix it.  The Glassbox engine must really be flawed if they can't patch these bugs faster.  Blizzard has already put out more patches for SC2: HoTS and that game had no issues on release anyway.  I'm just disappointed in Sim City and the overall response from EA/Maxis.

  • The seem to have activated cheetah speed on all servers now but other than that the fabled 2.0 patch has yet to arrive.

I also play Starcraft II.  While I am disappointed with EA/Maxis.  Its not really fair to compare them to Blizzard.  They have Billions coming in with WOW.  They use that money on starcraft as well I'm sure.

But to answers your original question.  All they have really done is enable cheetah mode and work on traffic a little bit.  The cars will now take a longer route if it is less congested.  Still has major traffic problems and everything else.

  • You think the Sims and all EAs sporting games aren't raking in tons of cash that could've been spent on a better SimCity product?  Not to mention all the other titles published under them IE. Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Battlefield etc

Yeah.  I'm sure they have plenty of money.  How they put it to use who knows.  But they are still a fish next to the whale that is blizzard.

The spent money on release day to get new servers as fast as they could.  You would think they could do the same with more programers or whatever it is they need.

In regards to what you said above, despite the money, the situation has me thinking that the Glassbox is flawed causing Maxis a longer delay in figuring out how to patch the game, if even possible.  I guess time will tell.  So until then, enjoy your weekend!

    Short answer NO.

long answer. If you want to learn the basics of the new interface and gameplay and are willing to wait for god knows how long for most of the bugs to get worked out enough then ok. Just realize that you will quickly top out of the basic functionality and your cities will get bogged down or become unpayable or just dissappear due to the bugs...AI or otherwise.

    Absolutely not

no mayor fixes yet so no it is not worth trying again.

  • I felt like digging up a dead post from years ago.  I've had a craving to play Sim City and was kind of hoping that EA had decided to continue developing this after they shut down Maxis.  Jokes on me I guess.  From reading some recent forum posts I see that none of the original issues from 2013 have been fixed.  Yet, here's EA still selling this broken game.  This should be free to play.  Too bad us consumers are idiots and keep feeding the beast.  I think Maxis would've actually done well with this had it not been for EA's involvement but they were forced to a schedule instead of being allowed to get it done right and ended up being the ones forced to close up shop.  I made an oath back then and have held onto it, I have not played any other EA games since.  Seems like they ruined other games too, like Star Wars Battlefront.  Anyways, we'll just have to wait for Cities Skylines 2 to come out folks, nothing to see here.  Also go check out Frostpunk.  Just my $0.02

I agree. It was obvious way back when that EA pulled the plug on the game and wouldnt so anything to correct the bugs or develop the game further. It was a shame as it had so much potential. The biggest drawback being the small postage stamp size plots. But the game play could be good and it looked great. But EA decided t spend their money elsewhere (The Sims?) as it would have taken a lost of resources to iron out SC problems. But it could have been so good if they had continued investment. We are in a capitalist society and money speaks so... Looking forward to Cities Skylines 2 after 3000 hours in version 1. Have fun everyone.
