[Feedback] It's hard to convince friends to play Skate. after Skate 3

Hello!

As a person already working in the game industry, I have noticed a few things.

Most, if not every single of these points, are crucial to convince people to play the game. I can provide solutions to each problems, and I'd love to see the game succeed. I have played Skate 3 only for a while (about 10h) and already can see why so many players are not going to play this game besides a short while, just to confirm why they will hate it.

However, at this rate, I believe the service will be closed until the roadmap will be completed - as next update is planned for... next year? Did anyone thing about how the current state is going to keep any players until up to that point? Especially as it is a live service game, and already lacks main features of previous games.

Mainly, there is nothing really interesting to help convince players to join and stay with this game. Starting from:

  • The intro video is very lackluster.
The humor is very sanitized and souless. Even in the Skate Explanation section - and there are no funny, stupid or even dirty jokes at any point - simple observations about a desk with wheels that you don't even need the narrator for. And as the intro starts being interesting (scene with the truck) it just ends. The instant letdown is the first contact of new player with the game.
Compared to Skate 3 intro, it's a short movie that's even better than entire Hangover series, in 5 minutes. Ofc it doesn't have to be long, just let it be stupid funny and hook the player into the game.
If the game would look like the the live action trailer ("Drop In") and it was used as the intro, it would be muuuch much more interesting
  • There is completely no story or reason to play the game more than 1 hour.
Nothing happens, there are no stakes, you don't accomplish anything besides checklist of repeating challenges (and only for points). No issues with police, no corporation overlords trying to get rid of skaters, no nothing. You just get random rewards that you don't even want, and consider if you want to wear it after you earn it - not earn things because you want these
  • The character creator is very boring
The options are as basic as these can be - no adjustements of face parts, length of hair, or body parts (besides sliders for **bleep** and butt, still barely noticeable in gameplay)
Want to create a very nice looking character? Too bad, you can have a fortnite face.
Want to create a funny, ultra small or fat ugly character? Too bad, you get the fortnite face.
Every character looks like plastic injection mold, which is really bizzare as 2010 realistic-ish and dirty graphics fit the Skate game better than whatever this fortnite lookalike is trying to be.
  • No tatoo and scar options
And if these will be added in the future, there probably won't be a free placement on the body to personalize these even more. Skaters and tatoos are something natural as their teeth and the asphalt. Just as the patches, custom painted decks and stupid accessories. None of these are there.
Yet somehow the developement time went on creating... freckles, acne scars and vitiligo? Things that no one notices or cares about? What's next, mobility scooters and wheelchairs?
  • There is no Skate culture, just corporation stuff
As I mentioned in the Intros - there is absolutely nothing Skater in there to be found. No dirt and grime, no scratched rails and walls from the skateboards. No stains, papers and trash, no sprays and graffitis. The skate culture is a punk culture, yet here everything is very clean, corporate and souless. No stupid or dirty jokes, no annoying pedestrians, no mayhems. Nothing to do at all, and especially nothing to do with Skate culture at all.
  • The City is completely boring
There is nothing to destroy or even knock over. No boxes, no glass bottles, no dirt, no scratches on the railings. Not even a trashcan to knock over or a postbox to hit with the head. City feels extremely boring and static and there is no initiative to even try exploring the City at all.
  • No interactions with pedestrians or players - even if those are stationary.
There should be an additional setting to disable collisions for annoying people or just yourself, but by default people should be able to interact with each other. Kinda the multi-player is the point in a multiplayer game, right? As for now there could be literal ghosts instead of physical players, makes no difference at all.
  • The AR guide is extremely annoying
    Constant affirmation and quirky lines
not only do not fit the skater culture, but also are painfully annoying as hell. These do not help to focus, are not funny, you don't feel better after acheveing something cool. It'd be better if there would be completely no super duper AR VR AI assitant, as it downgrades the experience drastically. And additonally, if that wouldn't be bad enough, after single digits of hours of gameplay, you have already heard every line up to the puking point. Is every dialog line is HR approved?
  • All characters are extremely annoying
The point of the skater games always was that everyone is goofy, stupid and cannot be taken seriously. What's the point of adding self-insert characters into the game that are too afraid of being offended, in a culture that's all about being dorky, offensive and easy to hate? Everyone is extremely helpful and affirming and will never say anything bad at you - up to the point it feels very very fake. No one wants to be friends with fake people, and why should any player want to spend time here listening to the same "very nice affirming and you never do anything wrong" beings.
  • No option to join co-op missions that another players are currently doing alone.
If you cannot help or interact or distract, why even show players doing missions alone (that can't see you because of mission)? Isn't the multiplayer part of the multiplayer game kinda important? If more than one person is doing one mission, display other players as more transparent ghosts and let people join the mission to do the co-op challenges.
  • Missing Game Modes
Somehow, after 15 years, there are not any basic game modes that were introduced on launch with older games. To be fair, there are no gamemodes at all besides the co-op missions. There is nothing to do in this game, and so the players won't stick around until something will be added.
  • Automatic "Unstuck" should be disabled
As the player character is ragdolling, it can stay laying down as long as you want and can pile on with other players. However once the player's atom is below anything solid, the position gets reset after few seconds and no fun is allowed. There should be an Unstuck button or option to disable the function.
  • Skaters don't use skateboards only
Of course that will be much more work, yet I'll still add the suggestion here - the skater culture evolved much time ago - and besides skateboards, there are also BMX, rollerskates and rollerblades, or even scooters. All of these can jump, grind and do some cool tricks, so players would really appreciate more variety that no other game ever presented!

As it's shortly 3 am on my side, I'll wrap up this post so far. I believe many players can already agree with most of these points. There are already multiple videos on youtube that basically say the same things and probably are ignored, until it will be too late to save the game.

The playerbase already got their first impressions and won't be coming back for another one. I'd love this game to survive and grow - but I know the current state won't keep even me for another 10 hours.

Thank you!

I think quad rollerskates would be so cool to add as not many games represent quad skating communities!!
