Battlefront 2 won't launch with new EA app (PC)

A few days ago my game was working just fine on origin. The only problem I've ever had before this was I had used mods in the past but they stopped working and I just gave up on them. After the new forced "upgrade" to the EA app, my game no longer launches. steam does its thing, then EA opens, loads for a couple seconds, then closes. Nothing more happens and no error screen. I've heard its an option too buy the game on the EA app, and ignore steam, but I'm not keen on shelling out a $40 for the celebration edition when I already own it. I've seen a handful of people with this same problem and no fixes. I've reinstalled the game/EA app and no mods are applied and frosty has been fully uninstalled (also frosty fix). I've already spent a few hours (like 4) trying to get this game to launch and am pretty annoyed. is there anyone who has even the slightest idea of what's wrong/ a fix??? Much appreciated.

I have SWBF2 on EA app (buy previous from origin) and DAI (from steam).
I have the same problem trying launch SWBF from EA app. Press play button and nothing happen, only EA app still pop up.
So only work for me unistall EA app. Go on steam and launch DAI. After this EA app was installing. Login and pass.
Now SWBF work and launch correctly.

I too purchased both Battlefront and Battlefront II from Steam some time ago.  At first, both ran just fine.  Then they stopped loading!  I searched the net for answers and tried just about every suggested fix - all to no avail.  I contacted EA support and after many emails and a phone call, they too could not resolve the problem.  So, I gave up, and resigned myself to the fact that both games, for some reason, just weren't going to be played any more.  Then, just out of interest, I was reading the posts on this Forum, and saw this one which said that after a Windows Update the games were working.  I have Windows 11, but checked for the update, and saw it was installed.  I clicked on the game icons - and yes - both games magically ran with no problem!  Amazing, I thought.  Obviously a Windows problem that has at last been resolved.  I checked from time to time - and indeed, both games running just fine.  However, now for the bad news.  After the latest Windows Update (25/04/2023), both games have stopped loading again!  Anyone got any ideas? or do we just wait for another random Windows Update to sort the problem out for us!

  • Hello, I have been struggling with this problem for a while now and kinda gave up on it. But now i decided to take up the problem one more time.

First of all, i did manage to launch the game using this method. Without it, it did not work.

What i did was start from scratch. Firstly I deleted the ea app and battlefront 2.

Then when i tried launching it fresh, same result. So what i did was navigate to the folder where battlefront is installed. You can find this folder by going to the ea app, then find the game, manage, then properties, there you should see the folder and you can press browse to access the folder.

From there select the starwarsbattlefrontii.exe, right click and choose properties, then compatability. Now the part that worked for me:

Turn on the option for " Run this program as administrator ", this worked for me. you will then be promted when you start the game to run it with elevated privelages, press ok.

Hello again, i have been trying to get FrostyModManager to launch with mods again.

First of all, i did manage to launch the game with mods using this method.

These are the steps i took:

    What I deleted

    • Deleted the ModData folder ( Ea Games\STAR WARS Battlefront II )
    • Deleted the Caches folder inside the FrostyModManager folder
    • Deleted the LaunchPlatformPlugin.dll

    What i downloaded

    What i changed / added

    • Go to the Plugins folder inside of the FrostyModManager folder, add the files from the downloaded DatapathFixPlugin folder
    • Select FrostyModManager.exe, right click and choose properties, then compatability. Turn on the option for " Run this program as administrator "

Start FrostyModManager. To confirm the DatapathFixPlugin has been applied go to Tools, Options and you should see the DatapathFix Options as a tab, make sure this is enabled
Put the mods in the FrostyModManager\Mods\starwarsbattlefrontii folder. Try launching Frosty with mods applied now.

Possible problems that could occur but im not really sure if it affects this. Problems could be:

    • If using vortex manager, it creates .vortex_backup files if you add these as well as your mods it may not work
    • If it says you do not own this game, close the EA app completely, not just by pressing the X button in the top right corner, close it from Task manager or choose the ^ ( up arrow ) down at the taskbar to the right. Then right-click the EA icon and choose Exit. You might get the message again, press ok and wait a bit, it may appear after a short while.
