Battlefront does not launch at all after moving over to EA desktop

Hey,

Issue is really pissing me off since it feels like there's probably some easy fix I'm missing. After being forced to move to EA desktop app, Battlefront II (owned on Steam) does not launch.

To be clear, it is only SWBF2 that isn't launching. Other EA games I own on Steam launch perfectly fine (Need for Speed Heat and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order to be specific)

I have tried just about everything under the sun that I can think of. I've checked and tried multiple different support threads that describe even a remotely similar issue to no avail.

Tried launching the game through Steam and through EA desktop independently of each other.

I've reinstalled both the game & EA desktop app multiple times.

Tried launching it through a mod launcher with no mods enabled.

Tried launching it as an administrator, with and without full-screen optimisation.

Tried temporarily disabling my antivirus and adding both EA app and SWBF2 as exceptions (to allow them to run without interference from antivirus)

Tried "repair installation" and "app recovery" on EA app

I've verified integrity of game files through Steam

It basically appears as though it's about to launch the game. EA pops up a window or two, namely "LinkEA" or "EALink" or something along those lines. It minimises the app as if the game has launched and it's hiding itself in the background (despite the game not actually launching). Once that happens, a couple of seconds later, EA app relaunches itself with no error message or anything of the sort.

I'm actually just completely stuck with no clue what to do or try next.

  • Update: After trying two of the same things I had tried previously, I now actually received an error message, as opposed to before when there was nothing. Screenshot attached

  • Druiddobby, that is exactly the same error message I get whenever trying to launch SWBF2 since I was forced to upgrade to the EA App, and I bought the game not long after release directly from EA via Origin. It is the only EA game that will not launch. I've tried everything I can think of, and suggested online, and so far nothing has worked.

Quite literally I want to tear my hair out.

Sorry to hear you have the same issue ☹️

It'd be wonderful if EA put the same effort, into making an app that works properly, as they do into making money...

I've tried contacting EA support on 2 different platforms multiple times, and the only response I got essentially said "go to the forums"

  • I purchased the game directly from EA on PC, and since being upgraded to EA App, SWBF2 would fail to launch.

Today my cousin, who is a PC engineer, worked out where the problem is. We opened the EA App on my PC using a different local Windows User Account, and then tried starting SWBF2, and it launched and ran with no problems at all. When we switched back to my Windows User Account, the non-launch problem persisted, and still is at time of printing.

As such it would appear that the non--launch issue is caused by corruption somewhere in the Windows User Profile files. We could not work out where, but at least it narrows down the problem.

Ok I can provide an update.

I manged to get SWBF2 to launch by creating a new local Windows User Profile, opening the EA App with it, and the game would launch fine, as I outlined up thread here in my previous post. Hence for the last 3 weeks or so that is how I've been playing it.

Yesterday, my PC downloaded and installed a Windows 10 Optional update, specifically update KB5023773 (link to update on MS's site - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/march-21-2023-kb5023773-os-builds-19042-2788-19044-2788-and-19045-2788-preview-5850ac11-dd43-4550-89ec-9e63353fef23) which was released on 21 March 2023. When I started up my PC today, I tried launching the game and guess what? It launched and I could play it like I used to with EA Origin on my usual Windows Profile.

So if you are still having launch problems, see if installing the update I mentioned helps resolve your issue.
