Community Transmission: December Update & 2019 Awaits

2018 is coming to an end but we’ve got time for one last update. Let’s see what’s coming tomorrow, December 12th into Star Wars Battlefront II.

OBI-WAN APPEARANCE

A brand-new appearance will be arriving for Obi-Wan Kenobi and you’ll soon be able to enter the battlefront dressed in his “General Kenobi” attire, inspired by the Clone Wars animated show.

This appearance will be classed as Epic and will cost 40,000 credits or 1,000 crystals.

OBI-WAN KENOBI IMPROVEMENTS

It’s been great to welcome Obi-Wan into Star Wars Battlefront II and in the December update, we’re going to be making some improvements to him.

We’ve focused a lot on his animations and have made improvements to his dodges, stagger and defeated animations. We’ve also tweaked various other animations such as his jump and attack, and his ground attack.

Further adjustments have been made, including improvements to Obi-Wan Kenobi’s model and character rigging. Many of these changes won’t be visible on first glance, but they all go together to improve the overall quality and feel of General Kenobi.

GEONOSIS IMPROVEMENTS

We’ve given Geonosis an art pass with multiple changes being made to the opening cinematics. These changes range from additional blaster marks being placed upon the factory door, to improved textures and increased details on the Clone Trooper helmet.

Improvements have also been made to the animation of the AT-TE.

BLAST SPAWN RULES

After the recent success of the fast spawn event in Blast and based on your feedback, we have decided to permanently implement the squad system into Blast.

Alongside this addition we will also be reducing the spawn timer down to 5 seconds from 10 seconds, ensuring that Blast remains the action-packed experience that we’ve heard you want.

COMING 2019

As this will be one the last Transmissions of 2018 we wanted to sign off with a look ahead to the new year and some other changes that we are working on that we haven’t spoken about yet.

While we don’t have specific release dates for these just yet, you will be hearing more about them closer to their respected releases. The below are still in development and details may change between now and the time they are released.

LIGHTSABER COMBAT

This has been a topic that is frequently brought up and quite rightfully so. It would be incredibly difficult to talk Star Wars without mentioning one of the most iconic aspects of the series.

Recently we began prototyping some new changes to the lightsaber combat and we’re hoping to release these early in 2019.

The biggest change you will notice with this is how attacking heroes will no longer stagger backwards upon hitting a defending hero. We’ve also made the change that once a hero has run out of stamina, they will not be able to attack.

These changes begin to roll out within the December Update, where we will be replacing the stamina reticule with a brand-new user interface element which will offer better insight into how much stamina you have remaining.

Alongside this user interface change, and also coming in the December Update is a new UI element that displays your ability to dodge.

From our playtests that has helped increase the flow of combat, making it a lot more fluid, tactical and most importantly, enjoyable. We can’t wait for you to go hands on with it when it releases in early 2019.

TROOPER CUSTOMIZATION

We will be granting the officer an armoured appearance and offering the Navy Officer as a free unlockable option. Much like the Navy Officer, all other default appearances will be available as free unlocks.

Yes, armoured Officers are confirmed.

We will have more details on trooper customisation in 2019, but we wanted to let you know that it’s something that’s on the way.

On the subject of trooper appearances, we can also confirm that in January we will be rolling out changes to the 41st, 91st, 104th and 327th Clone Trooper squadrons based on your feedback earlier this year.

EMOTE WHEEL

Emotes are a fun addition to the game and allow you to personalize your troopers and heroes with some additional personality.

Up until now, the amount of emotes you’ve been able to equip has been limited, but we’re making some changes in early 2019 that will alleviate this problem.

Through the use of the emote wheel, we will allow you to select from up to eight emotes during the game. One tap of a button and the emote wheel appears, from here you’ll be able to select the emote that you want to use.

As we move forward we are also investigating the ability to have a secondary emote wheel that focuses more on gameplay related communication such as “Cover Me” and “Defend Here”.

  • AWESOME!

Clone officer skins are confirmed and a lot of changes to the game! Also, a new UI for the stamina of lightsaber heroes is welcome, the current one makes it hard to see enemies right in front of you.

I'm really looking forward to having the squad system in Blast, so can't wait to try that out. Just wanted to note here, that the respawn timer was 7s, not 10s. The more you know...😛

The emote wheel is also great, I feel like having 2 emotes per class is not enough. Looking forward to spamming more emotes around (hopefully this will also include a fix for the emotes playing without sound).

And finally, no more new reports of the same battle point glitch. Though, I am curious if there will be any actions performed to players that have completely abused the system to farm levels for classes and heroes...

    • Fixed an issue where players would not be able to choose seemingly available Heroes - Reinforcements while the spawn delay timer is active

Oh, so this wasn't intentional? Lol, that's even better then.

Glad the battle point glitch is turned off. Had plenty of examples last night with players getting up to 200k points.

  • @ggibb65

Well, the battle point glitch wont be fixed for some time, but the point awarding is delayed for now! Some of these players were just ruining the game for themselves. The natural progress is half the fun!

    @EA_Ataashi

Anyway, I love some of the changes here to the animation of Obi-wan, he really felt unnatural... Plus the skin, this is really good to read here. This pleasant feeling is extended towards the clone trooper skins. Also, the game related emote wheel sounds amazing!

However, I am kind of disappoined reading "fixed the issue, where Darth Vader would be stucked in the choke animation"... I have seen this "fixed an issue..." for several updates. I kind of do not believe it anymore... Could the developers already do some plan for fixing the game?

  • Hmph, I know that everyone hated the stamina indicator (I didn't), but I'm not a fan of the new one.

Everyone said how intrusive it is - but now I have to actively look for it to know how much stamina I have left. Of course I'll get used to it, it just feels like that they've "overdone" it this time, it just feels so insignificant and small.

  • @felker_s

I agree, I barely noticed it, it needs to become more irritating for eyes, when the stamina is low, I mean it needs to be visible about 25% left. Or I would also place it above the character the way it is now. But maybe next update will do it better. Still, it is a step forward, it just needs a bit more thought to it.

Short feedback on patches, my humble opinion

    Pros:
+ health meter looks a lot better
    + dodge counter is nice
    + bug fixes appreciated
+ flash bang nerfed (best nerf ever)
+ thanks for Obi and Grievous skins
+ Geonosis content - really big thanks for that- Graphics and sound are truely amazing. Absolutely lovely. I love the detail you put into it. The whole feeling of the map is also so Star Wars like. AT-TEs looks absolutely fantastic and is fun also. Mapplay was strange at first, but now I love it on the clones side.

However many players don't play the ATTE - probably playing objective on both side should give more bp ? Playing the droids is not so great sometimes as you just keep shooting the AT-TE all the time, waiting to be shot/sniped down by the enemy while doing so. Boring at times. Also the villains seem to be very weak on this map. Ideas to improves this could be : lightsaber villains should be able to attack the AT-TE at least from the downside or back. Give more BP to droids shooting AT-TEs as reward for sacrificing the playtime. Probably  put more villains on the maps than heroes (one or two more) to balance out the free walking fortresses of the clones.

+ Squad system is great now. I feel it could improve by having **"no spawn zones"**  e.g. in the juggernauts on Kashyyyk. Cause the clones just keep filling up. Very hard too take at times.
+++ Community transmissions and communications are really appreciated. Thank you.

    *:
    - I don't like that SE44C and the S5 were nerfed. Blurrg probably overnerfed (not sure yet). Please do not nerf these any further. It's pushed to the limit if not over.
-- too many hero weekends for me. I don't enjoy it too often. Once in a while its great. But don't make it too often. It's fun, but also ruins the balance. Soldiers have no survivability and people just do hero spamming and blindly attack the other side without any meaning.
    - new ls stamina meter is out of sight. I think the older one was probably more functional. Keep the old one optional. Didn't look as good (more clutter) but was more useful to me.

    Worries:
I am worried that the intended stamina change will massively break the LS heroes/villains. They can already be quite vulnerable in GA. Also the fight in HVVV and GA will be more about how many stamina you will have randomly left than skill. A good player should have the stamina too take out several enemies. Probably you should at least get a stamina reset if you get a kill to enable killstreaks. If you are an attacker you will be massively punished otherwise and pushing though certain points like Kamino last phase or the juggernauts on Kashyyyk is already very hard. Without having it tested I feel the stamina limit might not be a so good idea other than it will stop LS spamming.

    Issues since this patch:
Vaders choke seems to be very short now. Did you nerf it ? If so I feel its a bit overnerfed. Or did I excerience a glitch ?
