G-Sync doesn’t work with Battlefront 2 to fix stutter?

Hi,

I’ve been changing the settings from within and outside the game to get it to stutter significantly less (playing in windowed mode with forced triple buffering and render ahead limit set to 3 seemed the best option for me at least)

One thing I am noticing is that my g-sync monitor simply isn’t working with this game in full screen? It’s activated in the control panel and works fine on everything else I own, but this one doesn’t for some reason. So weird as the beta played flawlessly for me.

ALSO, this game would massively benefit from an FPS limiter!

  • Yeah, I move my laptop from my 144 Hz monitor to game downstairs in my house and I noticed the same thing. I figured G-Sync was enabled but I had something messed up, but it works with everything else. I mean, why would a triple A title not support G sync..  Using the Nvidia control panel, you can click the "display" drop down on the menu bar, and check " GSYNC Indicator".  This will show a huge indicator on the screen when G-SYNC is actually on and operating.  Of course, the indicator won't show in SWBF2 because the devs broke it.

Being such a huge oversight, it's absolutely no surprise they implemented bonus performance problems.

I am being so snarky because at it's core, the game is fun as hell and I want it to succeed.  I couldn't give a rat's * about the lootbox controversy either.  Also, I know they didn't maliciously implement performance problems with 0.2.... but they advertised significant performance increases.  I would think when tweaking the engine that much, they would quatriple check their work.

  • You guys need to understand how gsync works before you post... 1. gsync doesnt prevent stuttering or fps drop, it prevents screen tearing by syncing your monitors refresh rate with your gpu's frame output... 2. gsync functionality is not handled by game makers, it is handled by the chip itself, your monitor is supposed to detect the frame timing that is being sent from the gpu and adjust your monitors refresh rate to match it.. if it is not doing that it is not the games fault, as game developers have nothing to do with gsync.. you would need to contact nvidia about this issue, as it is their control panel that is * the bed.. for more info about gsync see this post https://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync/faq

  • G=Sync is working fine in the game. I've had no issues with my ROG monitor set to 165hz with G-Sync enabled. What you are experiencing is server lag (if in multiplayer) or your CPU usage is maxing out and causing the game to stutter, or possibly even a combination of both. Ever since the last patch both of these issues have been widespread. The number of new players who got the game around Thanksgiving/Black Friday also could have something to do with it. The server lag is terrible and causes the multiplayer battles to jump around and stutter and sometimes for no reason I've seen my CPU usage spike up to and stay at 100% (a 7700k running at 5.0GHz). The game needs some big fixes implemented but I can assure you that the G-Sync feature is working fine. This is on EA.

And just as a side note, the game devs can affect G-Sync implementation. There was a time earlier this year where Windows Play Anywhere games (like Gears of War 4) didn't support G-sync. It took an update from Microsoft Studios to allow it to work. However in the case of Battlefront 2, G-Sync is fully supported.

  • Darthdva you are incorrect, the issue wasn't with Windows games, it was with Windows 10 in general because again, game developers have nothing to do with gsync functionality... Otherwise Nvidia couldn't state that gsync will work on every game (which they state on their faq) so posting a gsync issue to a game forum is not very useful

As other people have stated the stuttering they're noticing is server lag, the servers have been a mess for the last few days.
