Game Performance on PC TANKED.. NO, it's not my rig

First off, I'm running a Ryzen 2700, 16 gigs ddr4, and an RTX 2070. So not top of the line but definitely no slouch either. I was easily playing at ultra settings 1080p (with resolution scaled up a bit) and getting buttery smooth framerates. That was about a month ago or more... Hadn't played for a while, until about 2 days ago.

So i went to play a few rounds, and WOW.. WTF happened? Did you guys break the game with an update?? I mean on any given map and any given game mode (even tried instant action) the performance is HIDEOUS. i mean downright awful. Framerate drops to below 10fps at times, seems to hover around low 30s sometimes spikes back up to 50s then takes a crap again especially in graphically intense areas with reflections etc.

So yeah idk, id really like to play again as ive suddenly been in the mood for some mindless star wars action... but it is literally UNPLAYABLE atm. PLEASE FIX ASAP. Would love to try the new map, but it just wont run to save its own life.

Side note, every other game i have runs flawlessly including RDR2 (surprising i know)

Also I've tried rolling back to 2 older nvidia drivers just out of curiosity. Made no difference. Please tell me I'm not the only one with this issue.

  • My guess is you are experiencing Direct X 12 slow down due to the new patch.  Someone on this forum determined that if you run a NVidia 20 series card you have to switch to Direct X 11.

I have been able to verify this myself - my desktop with a 2080 Ti - the game is not playable using Direct X 12 - Direct X 11 is fine.  I have a laptop with a 1080 in it and it runs Direct X 12 just fine....hence it’s a RTX or 20 series issue.

Go into options in game and enable Direct X 12 or disable as the case may be.

  • Hello @UH60_Down .  Thanks for the note. Have you triend a full reset of the modem and router? I find it often helps. Shut down the PC, reset the modem and router, let them boot up and then restart the PC. Many times streaming in the background can slow the connection and it may stay open on the app waiting in the wings, which can seriously slow the connection...

Also you will find this game is deep in visual efffects and sound. Even a slightly slower connection can slow frame rates and playability. Especially if the game notes that the connection is slow to the server it found for your match..

Yep, tried it, no difference. Also I'd like to add crashing to desktop to the list. Just tried a fresh set of video drivers again to see if there was any difference. But either crashes right away or lets me play for a bit then crashes. Event ID 4101 video driver stopped responding then successfully recovered. this is with multiple driver versions. others are saying same. EVERY other game I test runs just fine. Problems not on my end. Broken game. But thanks for the suggestion all the same.

That was it. Disabled DX12 and all my problems vanished. Runs perfect now. Thank you muchley. Man I can't even remember the days when updates, patches and drivers DIDN'T break things or make them worse in some way. Pretty sad.

Anyway thanks again, appreciate the response.
