High Latency in LA?

I live in Pasadena, CA just outside of Los Angeles. For as long as I've had Battlefront 2, I've had issues with high latency warning coming up in the top right corner of the screen. Most of the time I've been able to ignore it, but lately I'm intent on getting to the bottom of this. I've spent $70 on a new wireless adapter. Done port forwarding with my ISP. Gone through everything EA Help has told me to do and wasted all that time. They sent me here as a matter of fact.

So why am I seeing 300+ ms pings on my uotrace? This is what I'm seeing in game. Lately the game's been rubberbanding for me like it was doing at release. I'm here now instead of playing because it became unplayable since I had my ISP open those ports up a few days ago it seems like gameplay has been the worst. I'm really bad at shooters due to crap eyesight now anyway, I don't need outside forces hindering my experience, you know? The game is literally the one I love to hate, I keep reinstalling it as soon as I delete it. Gets old getting killed after you've already dodged into a trench on Crait. HELP PLZ 🙂

I do not have this issue with other games, which leads to ask where are the servers for Battlefront 2 located that a person in Los Angeles should be connecting to? Thanks!

Also, I had Battlefield 3 and don't recall having this issue with that game.

  • Hey, @BudaKhan

    Your UO Trace shows a wide ping variance coming right out of the router and at hop 5 it spikes to an average ping of 286ms. Are you on a WiFi connection and when you ran these results were they done from a WiFi or wired connection? We're not aware of any disruptions to the servers from that region. You can try changing the server ping sites in game, but the UO trace shows how your connection is reaching our servers and it shows there is trouble at those server sites it's hitting along the way your ISP should investigate.

    Do you use Killer Control Center? Check out this post.

    Understanding your results from a UO Trace

    There are a few things to keep your eye out for when running these tests.

    • High ping times: If your average ping times are often above 150ms, you’ll see slower response times in-game. If they’re over 200ms, you’ll probably have connection drops.
    • Packet loss: If you see numbers other than 0% or 100% in the % Loss column, it means data is being lost at that point in your connection. If you see it in more than one place, or if the numbers are high, this is probably what’s causing your connection issues. Make a note of the hops where packet loss is happening, and contact your ISP to let them know about it
    • Big differences between the best/worst ping times: This is a good indicator of an unstable connection. The difference between your best and worst ping times should be 100ms at most. If it’s more than that, that means a jittery or spiky connection.This is what causes lag in games and is the source of frustrating inconsistencies in performance. If you see this in your UOTrace, talk to your ISP about that, too.

    @BudaKhan

    Is there any way you can go to a wired connection just to test with the game to see if you suffer the same lag? This way we can identify if there could be a configuration on the WiFi we need to adjust?

    I'd recommend going through these steps below too. Sometimes all it takes is a simple reboot of the network to clear some connectivity hiccups. If there's an option to change to a different WiFi channel (2.4ghz instead of 5.0ghz or vise-versa) try doing that.
