Re: NVIDIA driver keeps crashing (game freezes and closes by itself)

Hey @-DOOM-Kaatunzim, the best thing to do is a clean install of your GPU drivers.

You also need to ensure that you:

  • Turn on vsync
  • Perform a clean boot before attemting to play the game
  • Ensure you have power supply capable of meeting the demands of your hardware while it is under heavy gaming load
  • Set all in game graphics settings to low in order to reduce the stress on your GPU.
  • Set the high performance preset in your GPU control panel, as opposed to the high quality preset.
  • Run your video card at stock speeds (memory and core). This is also important for players with factory overclocked cards. This will require some third party software such as EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner etc.

  • @EA_DarkoThanks for the help, the only one that worked was reducing the core clock with MSI Afterburner and also limitating CPU max energy use in energy settings.
Still not a fix that i like since i lost a lot of FPS, but it's better than nothing.

Hey @-DOOM-Kaatunzim if that fixed the issue it is worth speaking with your GPU manufacturer to see what they can recommend.

  • @EA_Darko I already talked to them about the problems I was having, they recommended sending the video card for them to analyze, so I sent it, but they said the card was perfectly fine, they just changed the thermal paste on the card and sent it back.

I don't know if this is a problem with the game's engine, or the drivers, because as I said, Battlefield 4 works perfectly without me having to change the frequencies of the video card / CPU. Most likely it's the drivers, as when I installed the 477.11 driver (using DDU) I started having the same problems on Genshin Impact.
I don't know what nvidia does with the drivers, I looked in the forums and the driver works perfectly for some, and for others like me, it only caused problems.
  • @EA_Darko I sent it to them on 7/2/20, and I got it back on the 22nd. As I said, I sent it to them because I was thinking that the card was defective, due to these issues that were happening with Star Wars Battlefront II, Mount & Blade Bannerlord, and Battlefield 1. But it was tested there and they said it was all right.

So my conclusion is that it must be driver issues since these issues started to show up on Genshin Impact after I updated to the latest NVIDIA Driver (477.11).

Yeah, if you are seeing issues with multiple games @-DOOM-Kaatunzim then it could be driver based. If older drivers fix the issue then rolling back to them is the way to go.

I had similar issues last year with one game now working on the latest GPU driver.
