Re: Random CPU lag

Like I said, CPU usage isn't even high! That's the weird thing about it...
Also no background applications except for Origin.

Thank you nevertheless.

Guess I'll just have to wait and hope Dice can fix this 🙂

Ok, tried this "perfoverlay.drawfps 1" - it showed the same frame rates like the origin overlay.

However, today i played 8 matches galactic assault (2x Tatooine, 2x Star killer base, 2x Yavin and 2x Thayd) on ultra settings and got always 70+fps and there was no stuttering at all.

Two days ago i had massive stuttering using the same setting (and even on lowest settings!!!) in the same game mode and maps (at least on Star killer base and Thayd i remember).

Changed nothing since sunday, just played on two different days.

In beta there were also no problems. Only thing i changed since beta is the nvidia driver because the game forced me to update from beta driver 385.69 to now a newer release, have installed 388.31 now.

Perhaps just server related lags causing the image to stutter? My internet connection runs with full 50Mbit down and 10Mbit upload with a latency mostly about 21ms. I never had problems in any other game in the last years.

Let's see what happens in the next days. I have an eye on it...

  • Well, then let's hope it fixed itself for you!

But I guess only the future will tell, since, at least for me, this issue is appearing completely random and sometimes suddenly happens on maps it never has before.

I don't think it's network related though, since it doesn't make sense why it should happen one complete match and then be gone again. Also, if it would be caused by the server, wouldn't everyone in the match be affected? Because that's definitely not the case.

But yeah, I hope the best for you 🙂

After playing two days without stuttering the problem got back this morning.

So i activated the ingame fps overlay and the fps overlay from origin.

The origin overlay always showed high fps (about 80 fps on Yavin map).

The ingame fps overlay showed always the same numbers for gpu,

but when the stuttering appears, cpu dropped to a red 49 fps for some frames.

Had this stuttering only in multiplayer matches, never in arcade oder campaign.

Had a similar problem in Destiny 2.

There was a bug in the clan list causing the image to stutter while retrieving online clan members.

Only solution there was to leave the clan. Don't know if the bug was fixed there - stopped playing it for BF2 ;o)

Perhaps this stutting in BF2 is also caused by some net code because it only appears in multiplayer matches and only sometimes (on some servers perhaps?)...

Pretty sure Battlefront 2 was rushed and didn't go through proper QA channels testing on a variety of systems.  If you watch your video carefully not only are you getting stuttering but also terrible texture pop in.  That's the game, not you.  It's horrendously optimized.  I have an i7 6700k and a GTX1080 and I'm getting the same pop in.  I kinda suspected it was a cash grab when they front loaded it with pay 2 win straight out of the gate.  Not DICE's finest work by a long shot.

Started swapping PC components before I realized it's not me.  It's the game.  I've tried about 1TB worth of games to benchmark my system.  It's only Battlefront 2 that performs like this.

Here's an example of the 10 hour trial on an i7 6700k and GTX 1080.

Just started playing about 5 hours ago and everything was fine.  I was really surprised to see the game run so smoothly...being from EA and all.  Then I started getting the same thing you guys are talking about.  It started almost unnoticeable at first, little hiccup here, small freezeframe there.  After another hour of game play it's utterly unplayable.  I asked around in the match to see if anyone else was having the same issues...and of the ones that actually answered, they all reported the same graphics lag happening to them but their FPS was not affected.

This is the definition of a "Game Breaking Bug" but in this case...it's not a bug.  I've never actually seen a case of poor optimization this severe, it's somewhat amusing for the first minute or so to see what it looks like when a game developer completely disregards the industry standards of digital optimization and pushes a game out the gate.

Very disappointed in DICE, and I'd be shaming EA as well but EA gets about 95% of their revenue from FIFA so it's not like they'd even bat an eye at a failure like this.

Edit: 30 minutes more in game play and a grenade detonated next to me in multiplayer, I leaped out of the way as it did and everything froze.  I sat there looking at the screen thinking "Well this is just fine" and then I moved my mouse...and found that I could still look around just fine.  It's quite the strange experience, everyone in game began complaining that the game was freezing up and I'm over here like "Wow! The game froze but I can still look around, explosions and blaster fire frozen in mid air"!

    LOL, this is really bad.

Yes, you're right. The texture pop in is really noticeable as well.

I wouldn't say the game is badly optimized overall though. It's definitely not perfect, that's true. But to be fair, it generally runs pretty well, even on my rather weak hardware.

Nevertheless the weird stuttering and freezing has to be fixed as soon as possible.

Agreed that it needs to be fixed.

The only reason I say that it's bad is because it's not a Massive Multiplayer Online game.  The peak player count is 40 in a single match and while the maps are impressive...they're anything but huge.  So respecting the relativity of the term "Bad", I'm comparing it to other FPS/TPS' with similar numbers upon official launch and none come to mind that have had this degree or severity of optimization issues.

    My specs are:

    Processor: i7-8700k

    Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z370-E

    Memory: G.Skill Flare X 16GB DDR4-3200

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

    PSU: EVGA SuperNova 850 P2

    SSD: Samsung 960 Evo 1TB

I had the issue on another PC with a GTX 970 so I tried it on my Gaming Rig and also stress tested several other games, Black Desert, Star Citizen, PUBG, ARMA III, Ark, and I've had no issues what-so-ever.

Hell even Ark doesn't have the severity of optimization issues that this game has and Ark is pretty much the industry standard when it comes to complaints about optimization.  But again it would only be fair to compare it to other FPS in the 40 man modes.

Is everyone here playing retail or the Origin Access 10 hour trial?  Or some playing retail and some playing trial?

Having the same issue, it happens random. One day I can play a map and it runs fine next day play same map and stutters like hell.
    PC spec i5 6500 16gb ram 1060 6gb

Running other games with no problems also have latest drivers installed

Standard edition game here, no trial for me...somewhat regretting trying to put time into it, tonight I'm getting the stutter so bad that putting blaster fire into an enemy's face at point blank range isn't registering and I'm dying as a result.

It's definitely the game.  I've gone back and played Battlefield 1 and Battlefront 2015.  I have no graphical glitches at all.  Boot up Battlefront 2 and immediately have so much pop in the game is unplayable.  But like I said, Battlefield 1 and Battlefront 2015 have no problems and they're built on the same game engine.  DICE just screwed up on this one.

Tried again today, seems worse than it's been for the past 4 days.  I'm done.

Good luck to all of you sticking around for the hope of a fix.  I have incredible patience but unfortunately this falls under tolerance and compromise.  I won't tolerate a company accepting money for a finished product only to produce a product that doesn't even have the appearance of being finished.  If this were a technical Alpha then I would understand but this game has been launched and in its current state is unplayable online.  The rage happening in Match chat is hilarious to watch as people teleport across the map due to latency issues.

    Disappointed.

  • Update:

It seems like the issue could be fixed. At least I didn't experience any problems the last four days playing. More testing will tell...
