Re: Well, Crystals are gone for now

I don't care what they sell. Microtransactions have no bloody place in a 60$+ game. This game is not even finished anyway, we don't even have enough heroes to get rid ot the cross-era bs.

Micro transactions are in damn near every game these days. It's how companies keep their employees. Also how they can offer free dlc's. Maybe you have just been ignorant to them. Who cares what you like. It should be balanced for all that play. Not just some crying baby. That doesn't like an aspect of a game. One that they can't afford. Or two they don't have a life so they are always on the game.
  • Word is that the head of Disney called EA to sort it all out and a few hours after that EA removed microtransactions. Oh to be a fly on the wall when Disney told EA they are blackening the Disney name with their shify business practices.

Earlier today, Electronic Arts chief executive officer Andrew Wilson had a phone call with The Walt Disney Company chief executive Bob Iger about Star Wars: Battlefront II, according to sources familiar with the situation. A few hours after that call, players are finding out that they can no longer make in-game purchases with real money. " - https://venturebeat.com/2017/11/16/star-wars-battlefront-ii-microtransactions-go-offline-until-ea-can-make-changes/

The foolowing link proves the point of how loot crates are an attempt to give the player less than they would get if they just had normal 'get what you ask and pay for' purchaaes and try to rip them off instead:

I would be comfortable with normal non gambling micro transactions if they are balanced properly and do not skew progression (best being cosmetic purchases only). We must ensure EA no longer use gambling with loot grates in the game when they bring back micro transactions.

Would folks be OK if one could buy crafting parts directly?

Perhaps with a ceiling based on actual player level?

Or should it be purely cosmetic? In the first BF you could spend credits for emotes, looks, heads, outfits and so on. I'm guessing there wasn't a lot of uptake there, otherwise they would have used that system instead?

Good, for now. But I believe they will put them back as soon as they find out how many copies they sold.

Also, I wish they unlock oryg audio for polish players, we are still paying full price for incomplete game.

IMO, the damage is done. All turning off crystal purchases does now is keep people from being able to pay to catch up.

The time of this is horrible tbh. You've got everyone who didn't buy deluxe starting today and they were already behind. Now they can't catch up...

    This solution is facepalm worthy.

  • I still think its best suspended until its fixed otherwise it bad from now onwards and potentially even more of an upset when changes are made in the future

There's multiple layers to this problem. Paying real money for any in game currency that can go towards progression would still have the problem of the Pay to Win mechanic. It would get rid of the gambling controversy though. But they will also have to get rid of loot boxes.

This is just so messy honestly lol but imo I would take loot boxes out of progression completely and add those back in with a lot of cosmetic content that can be purchased with crystals Content needs to be something players can show off ingame I would either make weapons and star cards unlock-able through either ranking up and/or buying them with in game credits. They can also do something like the Hutt contracts in BF 2015. Crafting parts could be bought with credits or earned through challenges or winning a match. Crafting parts would be the only way to get weapon parts and upgrade star cards.

  • It seems Disney are the real key to change regarding loot crates. With children also being players, involving them in gambling with real money does not fit the family friendly face of Disney and they didnt like the PR EA was giving them and Star Wars regarding this.

If we want predatory loot box type transactions not to come back to this game, we should really complain to Disney if/when EA bring them back. E.g. tweet complaint  to @DisneyStudios and @starwars

It's already too late! Those that wanted to buy an advantage already have! Now since they turned off the crystals some people who bought a ton while they were around have taken advantage of a massive head start.. I started playing this during the 3 day pre-order early access and within a few hours of that launching saw many players with level 20+ card totals for heroes and classes alike! Now the rest of us can't catch those with 3 star or higher cards in every slot.. The damage is done already!

I hear what you're saying, and I understand your frustration. But don't let that get in the way of just having good, old fun.

This game is a blast and I'm not very good, nor did I spend any crystals.

It's still usually only a handful who really go all out and buy everything. Most will buy some, to try it out; and the vast majority won't have bought anything.

There are plenty of crazy-skilled players who don't need purples to defeat the fully decked out players.

And even then, just having all purples doesn't guarantee a win. You'll get your * handed to you buy purples and non-purples alike, that's the game.

Bottom-line: try to play and enjoy; you'll probably have fun anyway; most matches you won't run into a bought-and-paid-for character. Don't let the anger consume you, it didn't do Anakin any good, I doubt it will you.

  • I bought $20 worth of crystals and am absolutely no further along in my progress than anyone else. Crystals only allow you to buy crates. And crates offer completely random - offten junk items that do nothing to make a powerful toon. They have a chance to reward a small amount of credits so unlocking Luke or Vader or Palp would be obsenely expensive. They give a LOT of vanity cards (like the voices and battle stances,) and few Star Cards, and when you do get a new Star Card it's level 1.

You have grind grind grind in PvP to get your Rank up. Only with higher rank can  you upgrade your star cards using crafting parts. THAT's the big scam of this game - the path to advancement is via crafting parts, and this game rewards very few crafting parts. No amount of money can buy crafting parts. And the daily login reward gives you 5 crafting parts per.

It's true it's all random in the crates, but I guess I've been luckier than some with the ones I've bought so far. Bought the "starter" pack when it was still available and in addition to a couple of rare cards, you got 1500 crystals - with that I got some greens, another blue card some base Lvl cards and a weapon (s5 for the officer which is a kill x with class reward) but I also got 50 crafting parts a couple of times which really did give me a boost at the start with some early cards I could craft..

I've since gotten myself up to profile Lvl 15 and bought crates with credits several times plus unlocked a couple of heroes but never quite had the run of luck I had with those crystal crates..

If I could be that lucky with 1500 crystals what about those that bought the $100 - 12000 pack? Or a few of them?

Random is random true, but paying for those crystals sure had advantages - crafting parts, rare tier cards (that could immediately be equipped), weapons and the like. Trooper crates which give 4-5 items each time only cost 200 crystals while the others 120/100; a lot cheaper if you have 1500+
crystals than 4k/2.2k/2.1k credits each time especially when a decent game performance in GA gives 200-300 credits for a 10/15 minute time investment.

I do enjoy the game, despite its problems but those advantages, luck or no luck should NEVER have been able to be bought with real money, it should have been (& be) the same grind for us all.
