Screen Turns White or Intense Lights / Colors

I would say in 40% of my matches, my graphics suddenly freak out.  Often almost everything is white, sometimes the bloom or lights are just very intense (maybe the white is just a super intense form of the bloom/lights).  I can still see chat and esc to the menu, but I cannot make out anything else.  Usually when I quit back to the menu everything is fine, but frequently I start up another match and quickly encounter another issue.  Reloading the game usually buys me the most time before I encounter the issue again.  This all started with the most recent patch.  Shocking a patch trading old issues for new ones.

I just installed my most recent driver and the issue is unchanged.  When I'm done playing for a bit I'll try a repair and see if that makes a difference.  In the meantime I'd figured I'd post here if there were other ideas.

Update:  Repair did not work.  C'mon EA/DICE.  It's been almost a year since this game released and it's still such a buggy and unpolished product.  Until I see a dramatic change in the quality of EA/DICE I will not be sending any more money that way.

  • I am experiencing the EXACT same issue. It only happens in GA. I can go back to the Main Menu, Arcade Mode, Options, Scoreboard, HvV without a white screen. I have to restart the game to play in any GA matches after it happens. It occurs out of no where with a warning sign that its about to happen when the frames slow and then I know its only a matter of moments before I get the big white screen of death again. Started with the introduction of the Squad System Patch.

  • This was occurring for me after the end of a match and most of the time I could not play a second match.  (White screen but I could see all the overlays and items while I could hear the game starting).  I thought it might have been related to the shader cache, but I tried deleting them and even playing without them turned on but saw the same result.

I just tried switching from DX12 to DX11 and I was able to play 2 matches back to back ... twice.  I am not sure it is victory just yet, but promising.  I thought I would pass it along as something to try.

  • Interesting. Good workaround. I prefer DX12 though, and it shouldn't be an issue. Luckily I have a SSD so reloading isn't such a pain, but it's still silly. Posting DXDiag. Sorry I've been off for a bit...been travelling and working a lot.
  • Here is my DXDiag.  Thank you for the attention.  Sorry I haven't been able to respond quickly.  I've been travelling and working a lot.  I also wanted to see if Windows / driver updates resolved the problem, but no joy.

Also, while this is a separate issue, can anyone point me to possible solutions for drop in performance related to Windows updates?  Ever since I moved past 1709 my FPS have suffered.  I used to revert back, but last time I tried that I got stuck in an infinite reboot loop.  Somehow I recovered, but then the next day I had an issue saying my PC needed to be repaired.  Several phone calls later I had a fresh install of Windows 1803 with no option to revert.  October update hasn't helped much.

I didn't want to use DX11 either and noticed the difference right away.  You don't have to reload anything, just tell the game to use DX11 vs. DX12 in the options.  One good thing I noticed is that I got a bump in FPS with the change.  (I noticed you are also using a 970 running at 4K ... what settings do you use in game?)

  • I'll give DX11 a quick try before I revert back to some older drivers. I've read 387.92 or 385.41 may help.

I use the optimal settings GeForce Experience recommends. It's low and the resolution is actually 80% scaled. I've also gone into the NVIDIA control panel and turned LOD from clamp to allow. Huge boost to performance with that.
  • Looks like DX11 is a good workaround for me. I don't see it as a long time solution though, since other times I've tried DX11 I had worse performance or other issues...

    Hey everyone!

I'm glad to see that the workaround with using DX11 is working. I'll notify our experts that DX12 might cause some graphical issues after the latest update. Again, thanks for reporting this in the first place and posting your DxDiag reports!
