Sorry to break it to you but the game is broken and EA will still happily take your money if you dont own the game, and, regardless, deliver you a game that might work for a day or two.
That's what I expected, but hey, I can always hope, right?
Try getting in touch with Customer Support: another user experiencing something somewhat similar had gone long enough not having played an EA game that their account had been flagged 'disabled'. They were still able to access the account, but the flag was preventing the account from connecting to EA's servers. Could be worth a shot!
