Help: My son cannot access online features due to his age!
I have set the appropriate settings on his Xbox One profile.
I deem the content of Star Wars Battlefront to be suitable for him to play and have made the decision to allow him to play.
The EA servers are denying him access saying 'He's not allowed access to online features'.
I believe this is due to his age (he's 11 years old). There is no foul language, blood or gore in this game, just the moderate violence that comes with any FPS game.
I allow him to play Halo 5 (another 16+ rated FPS game) and he has no problems there. I do not allow him to play certain games such as GTA V, Call of Duty, Gears of War etc. but that again is down to my choice.
The choice seems to have been taken out of my hands here though and I don't appreciate it. I have spent nearly £80 GBP for this game including the season pass for my son and he cannot play it!
I am not happy about this.
I have spent two hours on Xbox support, EA support and back on Xbox support about this issue this morning - they blame each other saying it's due to age restrictions set by EA (and EA say it's due to Xbox). My son and I are stuck in the middle here.
I am going to have to return the game fro a refund if this can not be resolved.
Xbox support ended up saying I'll have to make an adult account for him to play with! That surely can not be the answer and is disingenuous anyway. He should be able to play on his own account and earn his own achievements etc.
What was also annoying was that one xbox representative said because it's a 16+ rated game they can not allow him to play it due to COPPA regulations.
I then pointed out that every other 16+ game I've some across does allow child account access as long as the parent has made the decision to set the appropriate permissions on their Xbox account.
Therefore this reasoning is inconsistent and confusing.
I'd understand it if child accounts weren't allowed to play any Mature/Teen/16/18 rated games as that would make sense and I wouldn't have bought this for him. But the fact that it's just Battlefront that he can't play is very confusing for parents who go out and make purchases of games based on previous experience.
This is Star Wars for goodness sake! There must be lots of children wanting to play this. EA/Xbox must have known this surely?
Is anyone else having this issue? Please post and let me know. Hopefully someone at EA will see this and take notice of the extreme frustration that it's causing parents.
