Re: Do I really need to RE-download the whole game??

Hi @YourFacexx and welcome to Answers HQ

How to install a Origin game using a backup, Battlefield 4 used as an example.

  1. Save your BF4 backup from “Origin Games\Battlefield 4” somewhere else
  2. Uninstall BF4 in Origin
  3. Make sure you have the correct installation directory selected in Origin’s settings
  4. Start the BF4 download in the new directory for 2 minutes
  5. Exit Origin
  6. Copy over the backup, overwriting all files
  7. Start Origin again
  8. Look at Origin verifying the files, setting up the changes in the registry and downloading the last files

  • This is not working for me origin just starts the download at 15 percent.

Unless there's been an update since the backup was taken it should work @lyndeno - you are the first one I've heard back from who've tried it and it didn't work.

Installing for 2 minutes, exiting Origin, then copy over the backup and starting Origin again should avoid almost all the need for redownloading games on Origin.

  • I tried waiting for 2 minutes after starting the download and then copying the game. Now the download starts at around 88 percent. I just downloaded this game last night with a different computer. It's telling me its not playable even though it is past the playable progress. Is it possible some of the files are corrupted?

  • Update: After a few minutes of downloading, it went through an installing phase and now it says that the game is playable. I still don't get why origin claims my game is not fully downloaded when in reality it is. EA really needs to do something about this. I still have 3 gb to re download though.

    Thank you!!

For some reason, installing the game directly into the drive (SSD) was not possible. I had to create a folder (Origin Games) within that drive AND then select it as the install directory folder. It's just weird since I was able to play the game directly from the drive and not having to create an additional folder in which everything would work.

    Thanks for your help! 🙂
