Re: Extraction for Squadrons - MEMP/SEMP!

Okay, as @Commander_Ney0 has pointed out I should probably say how this works

It’s a 5v5, possibly more, but with 2 capital ships. Depending on who is attacking or defending shapes the game. Say the rebels are attacking. The rebels need to leave their capital ship, fly to the enemy ship, pick something up from inside the hangar (maybe information or something). After a sequence of 10-20 seconds while “information” “downloads” the Rebel can launch again and fight its way back to its ship. The Imperials need to stop it. Vice versa for Empire attacking.

  • @HCarbonic Well it would have to be an A.I. boarding craft, on top of that rather than it having to fly into a hangar there should be external dock points where the team has to defend the boarding craft (since, you know there's no trooper type mode whatsoever in this game) so the fun would all have to be had in the surrounding space.

Even then, it would really require some work for balancing (especially with all the ways people will be able to kit out their craft) so justifying working such a mode into the game would be immensely tricky and I imagine the meta would be figured out in no time.

Alternative thought as to how this may work, given what I've observed of the gameplay mechanics.

I'm thinking a Reconaissance Extraction, based on the idea of a gun-cam taking shots of important systems on a variety of structures across the map (stations/defenses/capital ships)

Rather than an A.I. craft that has to dock with a target that the teams protect/attack, one of the players is designated the Recon Specialist and it basically becomes a race to "snap" as many of the intel targets as possible and get it back to the ship.

This way you're not constrained to one area of the map, while also having a sort of "Escort" objective for the rest of the team (think Capture the Flag without having to return the flag each time it's attained), the more intel points that have been "snapped" the higher the objective score at the end.

No clue as to rewards at this point, but I think it would be a better alternative to what the OP suggested.

@DarthN3fari0us I don’t see any problem with a player taking the cargo, but an air lock might be a better choice than a hangar. You won’t actually get out of the fighter, but it is hinted at or something.

@DarthN3fari0usWith your idea of the game mode, I thought myself of doing capture the flag. Striking points is irrelevant because we’re talking about extraction, but it’s still a good idea. The reason I didn’t choose capture the flag is because the teams would just have a few fighters camping at their base while interceptors with full speed zip back and forth.

EDIT: I read the snap bit of your post wrong. Protecting a guy as he does something could be an idea for the devs to work with, but personally I prefer an attack/defend a base orientated mode.

AI could work, but if you have a player holding it then you can coordinate with your squad better to attack and transport.

  • @HCarbonic Hey, we need to change the title abbreviation to the one you mentioned in the BF2 Extraction thread. Squadrons Extraction Mode Please (SEMP)!
