Hi guys, for those that have tried both factions for Fleet Battles versus AI, do you feel the Star Destroyer has better defences than the MC75?
I personally have a harder time as New Republic trying to take down the SD than the MC75 in Fleet Battle versus AI, but maybe I might be doing something wrong, so what are other people's experience.
Well last night I played a Fleet Battle Vs AI Normal difficulty match with Random team mates, and we managed to destroy the SD. I changed my Y-wing loadouts to use more Range Missiles and it helped to contribute to my team, so the SD is definitely destroyable.
I feel like the MC75's subsystems (Power and Targeting) are absurdly easy to destroy due to their positions at the extremities of the ship. SD's flat shape means that to get in range to shoot at Power and Targeting, you get exposed to all guns on an entire side of the ship. Shields are slightly more complicated, although I think SD is still tougher to attack on most maps since they are at the rear (and thus to get a safe shot, you have to spend a lot of time sneaking around the whole map). MC75 is basically wide open for kamikaze strikes and strafing, whereas SD's shape lets it get more defensive fire on you. The only part of the SD that is consistently beaten up in every fight is the nose, which is unimportant.
Coming to a dead stop next to capital ships (like in that video) is particularly unadvisable since recent patches have made ships that do so take extraordinary damage. You want to make passes on the subsystems without stopping. There are also a couple angles you can find to approach the Star Destroyer shield generators that allow torpedoes to fire and hit them underneath the shields: moving from roughly where the targeting is, or up from either side of the tower holding the generators.
I think it's much easier to bomb beneath the shields of the Star Destroyer. The tractor beams are easier to line up under the shields (if you know where they are), same with power and shield subsystems.
Yeah quick hit and run attacks are best. When I play with my friends it's easier because we each have a job and pick our targets. If I am with randoms it can get messy.
Does anybody know why the devs chose MC75 over the MC80 Mon Calamari Cruiser? I would think that the MC80 class would be more on par with a Star Destroyer than an MC75
No idea other than the MC75 was seen in Rogue One (and Rise of Skywalker IIRC) and perhaps they want people to have that connection. It's a relatively new design in canon, so maybe that's another reason.
MC80 would be a nice addition. More cap ships would be to be honest. ISD, ISDII, Interdictor, Hammerhead corvettes etc.
I do find it easier to assault the MC75 however NR player ships are generally more durable so I suppose it balances it out.
@ReposterI don’t believe it is, in terms of HP or strength, but because the star destroyer’s subsystems are more centralised, it’s harder to target the subsystems without getting hammered from its defences.
The mc75 has poor defences and turret layout to defend its exposed sections and thusly feels weaker.
I think the MC75 is actually better, it's still around the same size as an MC80 and ISDII, if you look at it, unlike the MC80 it actually is fitted with armour. And a bigger hangar bay. The MC80s are cruise lines given weapons, the MC75 seems like a dedicated warship to me and it looks like New Republic refits gave them better armour, very very very good shields and more weapons to make it able to go toe to toe against an ISDII
