I had 19 kills and 1 death while using it in a dog fight match. Works well for me.
Yeah, TIE defender's hull only have 400HP.
Thinner than the A-wing.
No shield means the instant death.
And their normal speed is slow like bombers. 🤔
Also maneuvability is not so good.
...But their boost recharge rate is really good!!
(Maybe weapon and shield recharge rate are comparably good too.)
Power management is their key feature I suppose.
Wow!! Good run! 😃
What is your loadout?
- @Sati_Sati For me, the manoeuvrability is incredible when drifting. It can do a complete turn in barely any time, something very useful in a dogfight match. With the barrage rockets and lasers, with all shields pointed forwards towards the enemy, you can destroy them.
But I do agree that the TIE Defender should have more health. Only a few hits and they’re dead. You basically have to boost for maneuvering. It's quite the same with the B-Wing as well.
The TIE Defender feels like a TIE Fighter Combined with a Reaper to me. I am still trying to figure out for myself how to maximise its use in Dogfights, currently I prefer using it in Fleet Battles Vs AI.
You can solve the maneuverability by sacrificing some health and shields. Tie Defender's health is already low, so going from 400 to 350 makes no difference. There is more than enough shields to sacrifice a little.
By doing this, your maneuverability can improve a lot, making it a suitable substitute for Fighters. It's not as fast as an Interceptor, but passable as a Fighter. Moreover, by using the Overcharge module, you have the option to boost your engines immediately. The boost capacity is low though. Easy come, easy go. And speaking of 'Glass Cannon', it's not if you don't lose its shields to ion blasts. It has strong shields with the option to immediately boost shields to max if you have the overcharge module.
I think the Tie Defender adds a different take to the Fighter Class. It requires more player skill since there more things to manage.
This fighter is to be used like an interceptor in my opinion - engines recharge so quickly - APS , shields etc. But then you have the ability to attack capital ships and corvettes....it opens up a whole new horizon.
My few attempts with it didn't go so well. I think it requires some really good management of systems and that specific APS or whatever ability it has.
I also had a few dogfights against groups where it seemed many people were trying it out and I felt bad for doing this, but it was a fairly obvious move to completely counter the Defender:
Played as an A-Wing with Ion Lasers, Anti-Starfighter Missiles, and Cluster Missiles, along with the usual Reflec Hull and Nimble Deflector.
Main Ion weapons stripped their shields fast and even the low damage of any one of the missiles was enough to finish them off. Sorry for ruining your day Defender Pilots.
Idk, I run it with Anti Star Fighter Missile and Ion Missile and it works very well. My main loadout is Standard Lasers, Ion Missile, Anti Star Fighter Missile, Ray Shields, Standard Hull and Propulsion Engine. The Real trick here is the Ray Shields, the increased laser resistance (most of the things that will shoot you will be lasers) is helpful, just be good at using counter measures.
The quick laser and boost generation is awesome. Altough I see it lacking against capital ships and flag ships.@Kanrei13I agree and like me, Im thinking you dont understand the sloth speeds, as a tie being so slow.. The devs didnt give any insight to why they chose what they did for dynamic make up, while this game is all about it. Just like boosters, being the main focus of the game which have little to do with star wars besides pod racing. That being they have limited over heating issues that we dont get here. To me things like this really are holding the game back. This game relies on balancing and dynamics on which are so flawed they had to stretch it outside of the realm of the premise of star wars. Its a dead game fizzing if these are the things we have to hope for. I get teh defender needing to be used as a flanking back up and retaliation, but it might not lasting dynamics.
