DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG code from unreal

Game only lasts for 10-15 minutes at a time then crashes to desktop. I have dropped settings to minimums, set priority higher in the task manager. I have tried everything from reinstalling the game and my graphics drivers. I have no idea where to go from here as the garbage heap that is the technical support simply told me to post a forum thread instead of actually trying to help me play their game. The Code that is throw from the unreal engine crash reporter is :

D:/depot/r8branches/r8release/Engine/Source/Runtime/D3D12RHI/Private/D3D12Resources.cpp:534 with error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED with Reason: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG

  • I take it no support from the dedicated support? 🤣

The error **DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED** with reason **DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG** typically points to issues with your graphics card or its drivers.

My advice would be to check Event Viewer on your PC to narrow down the root cause.

Windows Logs > Application or System sections. It might be logged as a DirectX or GPU-related error, often referencing the application that crashed or the graphics driver. Look for entries with keywords like Application Error”, "Display", or "nvlddmkm” (for NVIDIA GPUs) around the time of the crash.

If you find relevant entries, they might provide additional details about the crash, such as the faulting module or process.

FWIW this is the only game that I have had issues with. My system is older, I run a core i7-8700k at 3.7hz, A 2080ti and 32 gigs of ram. I I am running Windows 10 and I am running the latest NVIDIA drivers (572.83) but this issue doesn't seem to be driver related. I booted the game up and it did the usual thing of running for like 10 minutes then crashing, the even viewer throw 3 identical errors, each at 4 second intervals:

The description for Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

    \Device\Video3
    Error occurred on GPUID: 100

The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table

The event immediately after the last of the 3 errors is event 4101, source is display:

Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
