Game stuttering and not responding to controller input

Context: I'm playing on PC and using my xbox one wireless controller.

Since the last patch I've begun experiencing severe stuttering and freezing of the game at least once every minute. It happens 99% of the time I start fighting enemies, and sometimes just happens while I'm running around. It does not fix itself the vast majority of the time. Basically what happens is everything in the game slows down significantly and starts freezing up, and it doesn't respond to any input from the keyboard or controller. Cal runs in circles while whatever enemies I'm fighting beat me to death.

When it first started happening I had to force-quit the game to get out of it as I can't bring up the menu while this is going on. The only quick fix I have found is to remove all input from the keyboard I have plugged in and my controller by severing their connection with the game entirely. I have to unplug the keyboard from my computer and take the batteries out of my controller to shut it off and get the game to return to normal. As the stuttering is severe and incredibly frequent (it's honestly happening just as often as it's not), it makes the game entirely unplayable. Would appreciate knowing if anyone else has begun to have this issue.

  • Yes, your fix is the same for prior games built on the same engine. In my experience on PC you either play with keyboard/mouse or controller, not both.

This post and this post may help.

Please reply back. I'd like to know if it's now possible to play with controller and keyboard/mouse plugged in at the same time.
