Hard Freeze on death

Product: STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor
Platform:PC
Summarize your bug On death the game will freeze and not un freeze, cannot be ctrl+F4 to close or closed with the x button from alt+tab. Can only be closed through task manager. I am using a 12900KF with a 3080, 128GB RAM and a raid array of SSD that the game is stored on.
How often does the bug occur? Occasionally (10% - 49%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Die?
What happens when the bug occurs? Freezes
What do you expect to see? Not Freeze

This happens often enough to make me not want to play the game as the reload time is very slow as it says that it is compiling on every launch and the initial loading screens cannot be skipped.

Summarize your bug Game is crashing during respawn (loading screen)! Happened multiple times already!! Very annoying!!!

What do you expect to see? Game is not responding. Cannot even shut it down. Only solution is logout Win client/restart PC.

Summarize your bug Game crashes (screen freezes up, program not responding, requiring force close) upon death and respawn (viewing Respawn Screen) to or near to Legendary Enemies.
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? do as many things as possible in the required zones (killing enemies, loading textures by exploring, interacting with the environment) and then proceed to be killed by said legendary enemies. At the respawn screen, mash the spacebar/A or X buttons to respawn immediately (as an impatient player that just got pwned by a boss would.) Glitch may require multiple repeated deaths to initiate.
What happens when the bug occurs? The game freezes up- task manager registers this as "not responding" and the game will stay frozen forever. Requires player to force close application and restart application, loading from last saved prog point (auto save or manual.)
What do you expect to see? The screen will freeze up, become a static image vs regular environment, or loading/respawn screens idle animations.

I know that Jedi Survivor has had it's fair share of crashing issues on PC so far, and hopefully this should shed some light onto a potential cause of these overloads. Personally, the game has run mighty fine on my rig, albeit the occasional frame drop when using higher graphical presets as certain elements load into the player's perspective.

The crashing issues I have noticed with the game have come at rather "inconvenient" times/places, to which I found at last an uncanny link between. Each time the game freezes up/crashes for me, it is during a period when the game shouldn't be handling too many resources. By this, I mean, as it happens when Kal dies. Particularly, apart from one time whence the game froze up at Doma's shop workstation (potentially close/near to the Rancour?), 90% of this has been upon Respawn screens. Respawn screens particularly after dying to or near a "legendary enemy." As I had not progressed far in the game, this happenstance did not dawn on me until today.

Particularly, I have noted this occurrence with: Gorocco Matriarch, Rancour, The Spawn of Oggdo, and Sutaban Alpha (the most recent Legendary Enemy I have discovered.) Though my knowledge of pulling crash reporting data is inept, my thought about this is that potentially these enemies have more intense strain upon the runtime session of the game, and as such, loading/unloading these entities after each death may cause the game to crash. Specifically, it was noted far worse in the case of the Spawn of Oggdo, as I perpetually defeated several hordes of enemies in close proximity and succession to each time I respawned and approached the Oggdo. These additional ragdolls and entities to refresh each time I reset from death may have piled onto the potential issue. Apart from what I have noticed, this is all the information I have to offer.

I hope this information can be of some use to helping patch the game 🙂 and in the meantime I have resolved simply to never die to legendary enemies o7 to solve my game crashing problem. ^-^

  • This has happened to me about four times, which is a small percentage of the times Cal has died in my game.  The Task Manager shows Jedi Survivor as not responding, and there are no errors in the Event Viewer or Reliability Monitor from the time of the freeze.  The game is otherwise very stable.

Issue is still unresolved post latest patch.

Dying when fighting the rancor causes freezing when prompted to "respawn" after death. Forcing the game to shut (which is possible if you run in windowed fullscreen mode or use task manager to log out of windows 10) will then encounter issues with the game freezing on reloading the last save.

Lowering resolution and graphical settings doesn't help. Force shutting the game and restarting multiple times will cause an occasional SUCCESSFUL reload of game. Like 5 restarts of the game and then killing it before getting the game to reload properly: then die in 5 seconds to rancor because no opportunity to learn because game keeps freezing on respawn/reload. But then next death repeats issue with freezing and back to square one. You MIGHT get one successful respawn at random, but very uncommon, before this game reload issue reasserts itself and you have to restart 5 - 10 times to get ONE INSTANCE of the game working again (before you die and the cycle repeats).

I have tried closing the game down normally in rancor cave meditation point AFTER a successful reload of the game to see if that might break the pattern. It didn't. The game again kept freezing on restarting and reloading last save from rancor cave (even though game shut down properly via options menu).

Setting priority to real-time in task manager does not help. And yes, my Windows is fully updated as are my GPU drivers. I even ran verify file integrity on steam. No effect.

Game is completely broken as death is normal for boss fights. EA needs to fix game as this issue makes it broken and unplayable.

  • @GonfuzzaI've isolated the issue to the rancor meditation point.

If I use another meditation point outside the mine, the problem goes away.

The rancor meditation point is bugged/glitched.

  • Same happened to me on the rancor fight. The only difference? I literally cannot load back into that save as the game freezes every time iimmediately as i load in. I've tried clearing shaders, caches, verifying files, repairing files, everything i could find online. Nothing works. I'm once again at the mercy of EA to fix this broken mess they call a launch ready game, or start a new game for the 3rd time already. It's a * disgrace really.

At least when i died in my second save to another beast, that wasnt a legnedary enemy the game just crashed but i could load back in. Hopefully im as "lucky" next time.

  • @Freedei Did you have a go at the process I followed? Lowest res possible + lowest graphical settings? Might take 5 - 10 goes, but I was able to get game to load?

Then I restored resolution/graphics and saved at a meditation point outside the mines.
