Hot Take: The Dark Souls-like Bonfire/Meditation system doesn't suit the game
In my opinion, using Meditation points as checkpoints detracts from the immersion and doesn't mesh well with a story-driven game like Jedi Survivor.
For instance, if you die during a boss fight, you respawn at the last meditation point and must navigate back to the boss who is simply waiting for you, which feels illogical. It's even more confusing when a companion character is present at your death, as they reappear with you at the meditation point, even if you hadn't met them yet in the storyline.
The meditation system also influences level design, necessitating ‘shortcuts’ through levels to bypass encounters and platforming sessions. This feels out of place in an action-oriented, story-driven game like Fallen Order and Survivor.
A simple straightforward checkpoint system, like the one in God of War, would better suit this game. It would allow the developers to focus more on refining the already excellent combat system, improving the storyline, and adding more intriguing planets to explore. Rather than linking meditation points to checkpoints, they could be utilized for tasks such as upgrading the skill tree or replenishing your Force meter. What does this community think?
