Artifacts in SWTOR after updating AMD to 15.7.1 drivers (and beyond)

So after upgrading to Windows 10 and installing the latest drivers for my R9 290X, artifacts are appearing in portraits when I'm in a group or more commonly, whenever I'm in a loading screen.

Here's all the solutions I've tried so far, to no avail:

  • Running the repair option in the launcher several times.
  • Reinstalling the game (twice).
  • Clean uninstall and then reinstall of current (and past) AMD drivers.
  • Reinstalling Directx9 and the DirectX End-User Runtimes 2010 packages.
  • Lowering all the graphical settings in the game.

So far, none of this has corrected my issue. Here's some screenshots of what I am currently experiencing:

This issue ONLY happens while playing Star Wars The Old Republic; other interesting notes are that the artifacts over portraits in a group only happens when I enter and instance (although it sometimes stay after I exit it) and when going in and out of conversations. The loading screen sheananigans only seem to happen when I travel to my ship, stronghold or planet. Maybe somebody has an idea of what's happening. It's this a driver issue or is there something I can do to fix it?

  • @meathooked I'll be honest I have this issue also on 1 of my 5 rigs in the house... It happened with the change to Windows 10 and I will be honest I have been too lazy to do anything about it as it's a load screen only glitch for me for a micro second .. so it comes under the "Ehhh" category for me.

If it helps that rig is an ATI HD7770 X1000T @3.8ishGhz system SSD's everywhere and 12 gigs of ram using the "amd_catalyst_13.4_legacy_beta_vista_win7_win8" drivers.

  • I say it one i say it again i know this is no help but you might just happen to have to wait till the driver catch up with windows 10 and swtor. This kinda stuff happens in every OS Microsoft puts out it is why sys admins never rush to install new OSes.  As the first release of the OS tends to be full of driver glitches with software. It takes a better part of 5 months to a year for video driver companies to get it right while the customer beats there head against the wall.  I can tell you most likely swtor is not the only game that is having trouble like this with windows 10 and ATI most likely is working on fixes as we speak you may just have to wait. Not all games will run perfect right out of the box on a new OS install.

edit Also this is why you see every driver release note with fixes for games it is because as video graphic companies push the hardware to faster and faster speeds things get more glitchies

No change whatsoever in any resolution, unfortunately.

Firstly I've seen that first issue with the party list happen when the player is on the same map but not the same instance of that map.  I've always thought it was intended.  The second image however is very familiar to me and I may be suffering the same issue.  I run and AMD R9 295x2 and the same driver, however the game functioned fine under windows 10 until recently.

The 2nd image posted matched very closely with my recent experience although I appear to be suffering from more than just UI glitches.  As far as I can tell it isn't the drivers.  My game was working fine after my windows 10 update right up until the 3rd or 4th of this month.  Two things happened on the same day, one was a software update to raptr which has slowly become unusable with most games I play so I removed that completely, the 2nd thing that happened just before I started experience weird graphic issues in SWToR was a windows update.  Under windows 10 pro you are supposed to be able to roll these updates back but from what I can tell it hasn't done that.

So what is actually happening with my game is weird graphics corruption that appears limited to Alderaan.  Just that one planet so far I haven't seen it on any other planet and it has been preventing me from levelling my smuggler with the 12x xp because the ground jumps around, no joke.  Parts of the geometry are just jumping around on my screen which unfortunately for me induces illness quite quickly.  (And no for those interested my GPU is not overheating.)

As with the original writer installing new drivers, re installing the game have not helped.  Once again I ran this game under windows 10 with this specific driver for two weeks without an issue.  Including visiting the planet in question at least twice, without incident.
