Buying SWTOR subscription from website or steam

Guys I need help, so essentially I want to buy swtor subscription however i'm conflicted between two options. The first being directly from the Swtor website however, based on my attempt to use paypal or debit card it refuses to accept it. The second is through the steam which is more easier than the former that being said there is a lot of negative reviews warning against doing so. But checking from EA forum apparently some were able to use the steam version without any issues whatsoever. I want to know for those that use the steam version is it still the case to this day? Thank you
