I'm running into the same issue. My SWTOR display name is ffmagee. Given the email behavior when logging back in for the first time in years, it would appear that my SWTOR and EA accounts are linked, but I do recall my SWTOR account being a separate email/login/etc. when I initially created it, so I certainly can't rule out some jank there.
Support have asked if you can call them when the lines are open to fix the account issue
