The dxdiag shows (no swtor crashes) windows update failures open a command prompt as administrator and run
sfc /scannow
see if it repairs the catalog
As to crashes, steam installs are repaired per https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/0C48-FCBD-DA71-93EB not the repair on the launcher
Initially try running the video card at default speeds by entering debug mode per the image , this will remove any overclocks on the card that may make some games unstable
Also disable the steam overlay ingame just in case it is causing the crash in the steam install

Ok, in steps:
1. WRP did indeed find corrupt updates. Fixed, downloaded and rebooted: same issue
2. Update/repair was done via Steam, not via the launcher
3. GPU clocks: I underclock to extend life, at 95%. FPS difference is minimal, stress difference is noticeable. Regardless, enabled Debug and default mode: no change
4. Steam Overlay disabled: no change
Issue persists. Got more ideas?
Thanks!

As far as i am aware , both the steam install and standalone install use the same settings found in the appdata as seen in https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion-Technical/Guide-Game-failing-to-launch-on-Clicking-Play/m-p/4809830/highlight/true#M70795
So in theory it should not be a game setting issue , so that leaves the question what is different when running the standalone and steam , the only obvious thing steam is running but why would that be a cause on its own
Can see your running nvidia driver version 551.23 and the latest is 552.12 at https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/223954/en-us/
Maybe set the game in window mode via the steps in the guide, and and see if both the standalone and steam version are trying to start in window mode and if any change to crashing at start occurs
other standard things are to ensure swtor.exe etc in the steam install has its own exception in the antivirus etc- 1 year ago
Updated drivers. Same issue
Please note that the game launches but crashes in the char select menu or in-game, always after like 30 seconds. It doesn't seem to be a launcher issue. Something is killing the process only when from steam. Not UAC, not WD... I have no clue; it's frustrating
