Does buying 250 cartel coins give you preferred player status?

It says here https://help.ea.com/ca/help/star-wars/star-wars-the-old-republic/swtor-free-to-play-faqs/ that any purchase should do it but I see a lot of people on forums/reddit and guides saying it's bugged eg:

was this bug ever resolved? does buying 250 coins give preferred player status? thanks

    @ddabbo 

    Yes it grants preferred status , what it doesnt do is grant access to any further exppansions or able to level higher , to do that you need to subscribe for 30 days
