EA: READ Want To be removed from mailing list

Yes, I got a better response than you, but I didn't feel it's a satisfactory resolution at all.

Thanks for your responses, they were actually quite helpful. I'm happy
to say that we've gotten to the bottom of what's going on. 

It looks like while you
don't have any SWTOR account, you do have an EA or Origin account. Judging by the
fact that you posted on the EA Help forums (Answers HQ), you're probably aware that
you've got an EA account, and likely use it on a fairly regular basis. This account
is where the unusual messages originated from! 

I searched around for
information on the address you received the emails from; as it turns out, e.ea.com is
the Global Marketing address for Electronic Arts. SWTOR is a collaboration between
BioWare and EA, so while it's not an address we'd encounter here at SWTOR support
very often, SWTOR is included in the list of games and products that the Global
Marketing team sends out promotional emails on. The emails you've been receiving
aren’t sent exclusively to SWTOR players, but also on occasion to players who have
opted in to EA-wide emails with their Origin accounts. 

If you'd prefer not to receive
these promotional messages, you can log into your Origin account and deselect the
"Global Marketing" option -  that should remove you from the email list successfully.

Hopefully this has clarified everything, but if you've got any additional queries,
feel free to reply to this email - we'll help where we can.

[shortened]"I have two issues with this...the main one is that others would still be being sent mail with a non-functional un-subscribe link. That needs to be resolved...it's not OK (or legal in many places) to keep sending mail with a bad unsubscribe link...the reason I approached SWTOR support and didn't try mainstream EA was based on the content of the unsubscribe link [it didn't look like it was coming from main EA]...I looked at my email subscription settings and what were ticked...Star Wars is ticked but SWTOR is a separate item and is definitely not ticked. So to start being sent every single SWTOR newsletter based on that, seems like that's a mistake too...I want you to be aware that EA have apparently been sending this newsletter to people a LOT..."

And got another auto response from the protocol droid telling me to phone because I don't have an account with them.  Guess they closed my ticket.

I don't really want to have to unsubscribe from all the gaming news/Star Wars gaming news just to stop getting this particular email.  It really doesn't read like it's meant for non-subscribers at all.  But mostly I am concerned that they think it's OK to continue to let EA send their subscriber newsletter to thousands of people with an unsubscribe button that a) doesn't work and b) makes people think it's from SWTOR rather than EA.

I was tempted to try Origin support, but I've found them to be completely unable to do anything that isn't in their script.  So no point really.

It's probably easier to let it go.  Gah.
