Help: Ridiculously Slow Download Speeds

Hi,

I've been having an ongoing issue with my launcher for over a month now, and for two or three weeks let it slide as I was very busy and hoped it may resolve itself in time or be a problem on my end. As a guildmaster, though, now over four weeks into the issue, I am very concerned that my ownership of the guild has passed into other hands, and I have no means of accessing the game to find out. Why? My launcher is downloading at speeds which average at about 10 kb/s, getting only as high as 20 kb/s and often literally descending to 0.0 kb/s.

Now, I don't have super fast internet at all, and my ISP are aware of this and have told me it's congestion in the area. Still, SpeedTest.net runs always upwards of 400 kb/s, and this is in a bad time. Not good, as I said, by many measures, but still far superior to what the launcher is delivering me (my ISP 'assure' me a fix is coming soon). So I attempted to look for solutions, and found no really good ones. I repaired, I reinstalled the launcher, I ran FixLauncher, you name it, and nothing has worked.

Failing this, I opted for the solution of attempting a full reinstall as was suggested on a few forums, but this doesn't solve the issue: and now I'm stuck with a full game download facing me. Luckily I own the discs which kills a bulk of the download, but at this point it is physically impossible, it would seem, for me to download the game in any less than six months of constant download. Obviously not an option.

I would VERY much like to solve this and delve into the wonderful looking Fallen Empire having just completed exams, and as someone who has played SWTOR since the very start. I would hate to have to call it quits as both a subscriber and a player because this crappy launcher seems to be letting me down again. Please advise what to send through in order to best help with diagnosing and fixing this issue, or any immediate solutions. Remember, if it involves a full redownload after the three original installation discs, that's not an issue for me, and I'm pretty desperate at this point. I'm also new to Reddit and came here as a result of that desperation, so please be gentle if I've stuffed up somehow! Thanks very much in advance.

I can only suggest ensuring launcher.exe and swtor.exe are in all the antivirus and firewall lists

The CDN you are downloading from is governed by the DNS Server being used , if you look in the log folder (in main game folder) you will see an IP address for cdn-patch.swtor.com , now if you swap to say google DNS like 8.8.8.8 see if the IP address in the log changes , this means you are trying to now download from a different CDN and may perform better.

I know this is an old post, but I didn't see the solution that worked for me listed anywhere near the top of any search results for this issue. I was having the same problems, incredibly slow download speeds. I tried all the suggestions of editing the launcher.settings file, but none of those worked for me. What I finally found was this utility (official EA guide link) that repairs the launcher. After placing the .EXE in my SWTOR install folder and running it, I'm downloading at full bandwidth. Hope this helps someone.
