Hi! I’m wondering about how to level up my companion in the best way. Is it to buy gifts to them? And where do I best buy gifts in that case?

Yes, buying gifts with credits. They also get influence from sending them on crew skill missions, dialog choices or from a special cartel market item (instant level 50). You can buy the gifts on the Fleet, Galactic Trade Network section.
