Installed Anthem Demo, SWTOR stopped working, Origin interaction?

I installed the Anthem Demo through the Origin client yesterday, my SWTOR hasn't been able to launch ever since.

Launcher gives me an error (error.jpg) after getting that tried launching directly from SWTOR.exe got another error about missing dll files. (error2.jpg)

Replaced all dll files, tried the launcher repair tool, all unsuccessful.

The launcher keeps giving me the original error, swtor.exe gives no errors now but doesn't start the game.

Guess I'll be forced to do a fresh install of the game.

Any thing else I can try?

  • The launcher did not even start up!

Yes, I am aware that's where the dll should be, the question is: Why did it disappear when all i did was install the Anthem demo?

No, the first error can't be caused by the anti-virus/firewall because they are the same as before, no settings were changed by me and I didn't get that error before. Or would installing the Anthem Demo/using the origin launcher change any of those for me?

This conversation is feeling a bit circular.

I have now reinstalled the game, but thanks to the download link on the SWTOR website, I now have the bitraider client... AGAIN.

Would it be too hard to update that link?

Do I feel like downloading the full thing again to get rid of Bitraider again? NO.

At least the game is working now. :\

What antivirus / firewall are you using?  Does your launcher have the letters ST on the bottom left corner?

Swtor is separate from Origin so not sure why that would affect swtor.

  • I use Avast and Windows Firewall.

    Not using bitraider.

I have no idea what the interaction would be, but the fact is I changed nothing else on my PC, with the exception of installing Anthem. They both can be launched via Origin (even though I never used it for SWTOR). And Origin was already on my pc since it was mandatory for the BF 2 demo.

The only recent change, between swtor working and not working, was installing the Anthem Demo.

What is the file path for the game ? is it using the origin file path, i gather this was originally installed through origin ?

Have you tried to use the repair utility at this link ? this is a self extracting archive of ALL the launcher files and is designed to be extracted into the folder that has launcher.exe

There is a chance there is a conflict of some description occurring to cause the error code you are seeing however i am not sure it can be directly antham related but happy to provide things to check if you are still needing help with this.

Edit - I have the antham demo installed here as well and both are ok

  • I did not install SWTOR through origin, it was installed previously. File path wass the standard defined by the installer.

I did try the repair utility, did exactly what you mentioned, nothing came of it. Same error was displayed after that.

I know lots of ppl that have both and didn't have any problems, however since I made no other change to the pc I cannot see what else could have originated the problem.
Oh and did I mention the fact that the Anthem Demo never worked for me either?
It would launch, open a window frame and then close it and just open up the Origin client again.
So I messed up one game and didn't even get to try the other. Fun!

At this time I have removed the origin client and SWTOR from my PC and I'm doing a fresh install for SWTOR.
So any conclusions coming from this post will be merely theoretical.

    All good understand

If you press the windows key and type reliability , have a look at any recent entries listed (if any) it may provide more information on what occurred

    The memoryman.dll should be seen in C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\BioWare\Star Wars-The Old Republic\swtor\retailclient

now the first error you got can be a software conflict or caused by the antivirus/firewall too

I guess from here if you are not using bitraider then we can take that system to a full clean boot per this link and then see if launcher.exe launches , use launcher.exe in the swtor folder as opposed to using a shortcut for the moment too and right mouse click on it and select "run this program as administrator"

Edit - just to confirm the launcher is now working on the re-install ? or was your issue on clicking play ?

That sort of error has been seen before, example link  appears a repair sorted that particular case

My thoughts are the only thing that can physically remove a file from the swtor folder is the antivirus otherwise a system file error/corruption may cause this too, was memoryman.dll really missing from that folder.

Also there is no need to fully install the game to disable bitraider if you do this again in the futurue, launcher just needs to run for a few seconds then closed so the launcher.setting file is written correctly then disable bitraider as per the guide

Not sure what you mean by update the link, there is only one setup file from www.swtor.com/download and bitraider is the default game installer, the other is no longer supported.

and it is good to hear the game is working now 🙂
