OTP Issues
Hi. My name is Cody, and here's a little story about me and my first world problem.
I am a single Dad of two wonderful little boys. Given that fact, I spend more than half of their lives being their present parent while the other person consistently disappears. It's okay. I mean, it's not, but I've learned to deal with it. More importantly, it's not your problem, dear reader, it's mine. But this is the crossroads I've found myself at.
Recently, I subscribed to SWTOR again, after years of neglecting myself and dumping every ounce of life into the previously mentioned lives of my little counterparts. English: I paid money to have fun with the little bit of free time I've learned to cut out for myself. So, what's the problem? OTP's, baby, OTP's. The last few days it hasn't been an issue. Within the range of one to five minutes, I would get my charming little email, sometimes marked as spam, and I'd proceed to live in a galaxy far, far away. Today I have encountered the fundamental issue of not receiving an email. Therefore, I cannot play the game I am actively subscribed to. What's the solution? A call center here in Germany that is *definitely* not open on a Sunday. Next is a security key app that is, drumroll..... not available on any of my devices. That's it. The support page offers a circular loop of non-answers, but has led me here. So now I'm typing a passive-aggressive post onto a forum that will very likely go unanswered by the powers that be.
Having done a stint in the Army, I've learned the proper format of a complaint: encounter a problem, assess the problem, develop a solution, and present the package to leadership. So here goes:
Problem: the OTP function is failing.
Assess the problem: I'm not IT, but I reckon this here is one of them dang server/connectivity issues. One system is not communicating with another. Or something.
Develop a solution: It's been stated before, but I'll say it here again. Allow us, the end-users, to opt-out of this system. I appreciate security as much as the next guy, but even waiting five minutes for a password that might not ever appear cuts into my precious little gaming time. That, or even just reducing the frequency of this prompt to once weekly will greatly enhance my experience here, and probably reduce the workload of whatever applicable systems are in place, which would therefore potentially improve the reliability of the system itself... who knows...
Present the package: Here it is. Please help. I'm not asking for much. And I'm not looking for some backwoods solution to the problem, either. Fix the system that I, and others, are paying for, so we can continue enjoying the game, and continue paying for the game, to continue enjoying the game... You see where I'm going, right?
