Tried it a couple more times, and still no opening crawl. "Auto Skip Movies" is not on. Anyone?

Assuming your not hitting the esc key at anytime once you create your character there is no setting that I found that would disable that. I just created a new Sith Warrior last night and the opening text that crawls with the backstory played just fine.
I would try a couple of things. First I would go ahead and add swtor.exe and launcher.exe to your anti-virus / firewall safe / exceptions list in case they are blocking or deleting files.
Next I would run a repair in case there are missing files:
Non-Streaming launcher - Log into the launcher but don't click Play. Check for small letters "ST" in the bottom left corner. If this is NOT present, With the new launcher after login , select the username pull down on the top right and select settings, then press repair.
Streaming launcher - If the letters "ST" is present, close the launcher, right mouse click on the game shortcut, select open file location and delete the BitRaider folder. Then start the launcher. - Mistermovieman10 years agoRising Adventurer
Swtor isn't blocked by my firewall. I also cannot do a repair on a launcher.

The repair above has two parts depending on what type of launcher you have. You would need to review each to see which one of the two you can do but one of them should be available to you.
There is also the launcher repair utility here but I would only use this if after running a repair above doesn't fix the issue.

No, what I meant was that the repair button is grayed out.
If this is in regards to the repair button on the launcher
This repair button only works for non streaming launcher and only after logging in on the launcher. Play button should be lit.
If the Streaming launcher (Letters ST will be on the lower left of the launcher) is used then this repair button will Never be available, to repair the streaming launcher is per here
Most just delete the entire Bitraider folder to trigger the repair as it is simpler directions.
In regards to the movies when you are on the character select screen on the lower left is a cog to enter preferences
in the preferences here is "User Interface" in this is a tick box to "Auto Skip Movies" is this unticked ?
maybe tick it and apply and then untick it and apply again to be sure it isnt glitched

I removed the Bit Raider folder, and the game seems to be doing fine! The opening crawl is playing as it should be! Thanks!
Glad to hear
