Rename Tokens and Available Names

I just bought a rename token for my character after noticing that a (relatively) recent update allows for a single space to be included in their names. However, every time I attempt to rename them, it says "name unavailable, please choose another." I thought perhaps it might have been taken (though the odds are pretty low, all google searches of the name pull up my own artwork) so I went to character creation and made a new character, and was able to get the same name. Obviously, I don't need that one, so I deleted the character once more, but I'm still unable to change my main character's name. Is there maybe a recent glitch with spaces in rename tokens I should be aware of? All the information I can find online is referring to the massive server shift and forced renames from a few years ago, nothing relevant to me. I'd appreciate some advice here, because I'd hate to waste a rename token (or worse, have to restart the whole character just to take advantage of the new spaces).

EDIT: I should add that the first name "Larry" doesn't appear to violate any rules, and the last name I'm trying to use is already his current username, which therefore means it's...you know...not breaking any rules.

    Looks like it's a bug! Not sure if it's specific to Larrys (though that would be in character, being sad and weird and all) but here's part of the response I got from support:

    "After looking in to the issue and trying to do the name change on your behalf, I am also getting this error also which leads me to believe that after fixing the darn thing it is broken again! I'm really sorry about that! If you would like to bug report to flag this as an issue our development team will get on to fixing it." 

    I guess I'm off to report it, but thanks for the help everyone!

    What I could think of is that you eventually have an Space or some bad Character in Front of the First Name, or two Spaces between.

    any special characters in the name when renaming an existing character, might also result in an error. 

    And as far as I know they update their naming list violations pretty often. So if you were able to use a name 2 years ago, there might be a chance you cant do it now. but you said you were able to create a character with the exact name :/

    I guess you can always write an ingame ticket and ask why you cant use the name (I would mention the name in the ticket) and see what is up

    Thanks! The character's actually fairly new (I've been playing since around launch, but this one is only a few months old), so it's my assumption that rename tokens might not be able to deal with special characters like spaces. That said, I still can't figure what's wrong with the name, so I'll send an in-game ticket. Thanks for the help!

    (Maybe Larry means something horrendously offensive in another language and I'm just not aware? haha)

    lol, I hope it wont, cause all the poor larrys in the world :D

    let's hope this can be cleared up and you can use the name you want to use for your character soon 🙂

    Is renaming a character still possible?
    I'd like to have a space between the name Akasha Phoenix   but it wouldn't let me have it. Not sure why since it didn't let me know why it wasn't valid.
    If the last name is too long, Starr would be fine for the last name.
    The other character I hit return and it loaded in... It isn't supposed to be Fyre-haert... Jade Fyre was what I was trying to get put in... but it wouldn't allow it.

    So if you could let me know how to get a rename coin, ticket or whatever... I'd like to fix these two names.
