Swtor trading in-game is broken

I am a preferred player, and I have put a decent amount of time into this game. I usually play it with two friends who live elsewhere, and because we play together so often, I wanted to treat them by buying them each a Section X Authorization so we can run the HK-47 missions together. I remember being able to trade Cartel market items with no fees, and so I added these 2 unlocks to my inventory with the understanding that I could gift these to my friends in-game.

Well lo and behold, when the items unbound, I went to trade them with my friends and discovered that the tax to gift the item was almost 2 million credits. My credit limit is obviously only 1 mil, and so now I have these 2 unlocks which my alts are not going to use, and which I cannot gift to my friends because of the credit limit. How is this fair to preferred players who cannot afford to subscribe?

Why can I not buy nice things for my friends without having to go broke in this game?

I am now left with these unlocks in my inventory, and the only way I can recoup my costs is by selling them for 1 mil on the GTN, plus I can't play the unlocked Hk-47 mission with my friends, which was the whole point of the purchase. I lose money, and can't play this quest chain with my friends, all because EA decided to make trading/mailing items cost an absurd amount of credits that only subscribers can afford, when trading/mailing items was free before. The new update ruined this for everyone. This makes the game very unfun to play as it's more pay-to-win than ever.

EA, please fix the mailing/trading tax, or add a gift option that binds on receiving.

  • Hey there! I'm afraid that the trade tax is working as intended, but I can understand how this would be frustrating; the trade tax is a relatively new implementation, so it's possible at some point they'll make it more friendly toward preferred players, but these things can take time.

  • Yeah I suppose they had to curb the people selling stuff for actual profit in-game, but there should be a reasonable gift option.

I even have a silent ghost armor set from one of the fleet vendors which I bought with credits and cartel certificates, and even though I got it with purely in-game currency I can't even gift that to someone else without paying tax higher than my credit limit.

This tax just prevents me from giving people extra things I don't need, even Nar shaddaa nightlife prizes have a ridiculous amount of tax and I need to get rid of those somehow but I can't due to credit limits being below tax price.

I would even settle for a bind-on-recieving gift option but this is just madness.
