And here is your second misconception: strong players will adapt and continue to prosper while weaker players will continue to struggle. 3v3 will not magically make good players bad or bad players good.
To be fair, number of GLs does matter more in 3v3 than it does in 5v5, simply because there are way more non-GL counters in 5v5 than there are in 3v3, making having more GLs even more of an advantage than it already is. Under the old system I was usually doing just as good in 3v3 compared to 5v5, if not better, and was always getting Kyber, but under the new system and its matchmaking, I don't think I will do AS well, and not because I'm a bad player, but because fighting off a 2 GL disadvantage (+ overall roster disadvantage) will be a lot harder now due to limited counters. Maybe it won't be as bad once it starts, but my prediction is still that I will drop. But we'll see. You're in kind of a similar boat as me as our rosters and ranks are fairly close to each other. Don't you think it will be a lot harder now to fight off big roster disadvantages now? I'm sure we will both face people that we would have beaten in 5v5, but will end up losing to just because it's 3v3. I'm not talking about liking/disliking 3v3 btw. I'm just stating that there will be bigger disadvantages for people like us two.
