Because it deviates from an established pattern and people followed a well known path to achieve their intended outcome - that's why they didn't notice - because they had no reason to be looking for something to be different than previous experiences.
I'm not making a case either way for a make good - do a make good, don't do a make good - whatever - but surely you can see how people would be excited for the new thing and charge forward thinking that it would work the same way it has in the past?
I mean sure, I guess we should have been paying closer attention (because why would it work the way it always works?), but many of us didn't.
