A calm ship complaint.

Hi CG. There are alot of moving parts to programing a game like SWGOH. Adding new characters can always cause unexpected results. I do understand this. It is not an easy task to keep power creep balanced. Power creep is expected in a great game of this style. I get that.

My ally code is 488-159-141. Please look at how much cash I have spent in this game. I clearly love it.

There have been plenty of new character releases over the years that have impacted this game even at low stars and gear. Mara jade and her omicron are a great example. But did it change the game at the highest level? No.

I am an active player in ships every day. I have used my resources to level and relic my leviathan pilots higher than most of my opponents. Even an r9 sith trooper and sith assassin. Staying in #1 has been a relatively doable task. I spent the resources, I got the reward from it.

Since the release of punishing one. All my spent resources and money are wasted. I am now losing battles to people with the bare minimum to unlock the leviathan. The person in the number one spot in ships battles has a r7 malak and r7 sith trooper. My higher relics do nothing. I feel stupid for wasting droid brains, Garuda keywords, aeromagnafiers, impulse detectors, zinbiddle things and so much more to build and strengthen my fleet. None of it strengthened my fleet.

We all have r9 Darth Revans. Now it's a coin flip. I have stayed in many battles where I lost the coin flip to try to win with my higher reliced fleet to no avail. You lose the flip, you lose. Everytime. Higher relics, nope, you lose. Higher use of resources, nope. You lose.

I know this game changes all the time but when a new ship or character comes out and at 3 or 4 stars and it changes everything this hurts. Bad.

As a player who loves this game, I ask, please, please fix this coin flip situation. It is not an great feeling to invest in what should be a fun game only to have the rug pulled out from under them. I feel it is reasonable to believe higher investment should yeald higher rewards. Would this type of change make you feel comfortable spending your money and time in a game? Also.  Why would I invest in the new Ahsoka gl when what I have been shown is that at any time a new 3 or 4 star character can be released and destroy them or make them irrelevant?

I hate being negative but this hurts.

For your consideration,

Robot

  • The crazy thing is, if you look here, on Reddit, on various Discord servers, etc., the ship complaints are all about different things.  It made Leviathan mirror matches awful.  It made Leviathan vs Executor pretty bad.  It destroyed the Chimaera, and therefore the conquest ship Scythe, piloted by a legendary character with one of the most difficult journeys, against almost anything it was used for.  It was a huge nerf to the previously second strongest meta ship in the game.  And all those things weren't even the only things affected.  Fleets are a mess across the board.

I'm worried that they aren't saying anything, partly because they're about to give anniversary gifts and maybe even release LSBs, and they assume those will make people forget.  And partly, and this is a total guess on my part, they're planning on releasing a Profundity lifter, maybe even as the new conquest unit, and either hope that will fix things, or serve as another aforementioned distraction.  And a Profundity lifter will only fix one of the things.  I don't think much will distract people from the current state of things.  I haven't played since launch or anything, but I have played a few years at least, and while there's always something for people to complain about, I haven't seen it nearly as bad as it has gotten this year, and especially in the last few months.

I mentioned the possibility in another thread about devs more or less being handcuffed, and working for the whims of the higher up types that have no idea how things work with the actual game, and are only motivated by revenue and screentime numbers.  Honestly though, while so many give the folks like Meathead a pass (myself included), and in the possible case of the devs being in a situation just mentioned, would also give them a pass, at what point do those types that are far more in touch with the reality of the game realize that everyone bailing on the game is just as much of a danger to their jobs as not pleasing execs at every turn.

Everyone is posting and complaing right now (I'm guilty too), but it's really the devs and Meatheads of the world we need on our side in this.  We really need more constructive threads like this one.  Or, you know, everyone could just keep posting threads about how much they suck.  That'll get 'em...

Thank you for considering my post constructive. That was my hope.

I'm all about constructive feedback - there's tons of constructive criticism all over the complaint threads though. When people don't feel like they're being heard they're going to naturally tack towards what they think makes them feel better - which is expressing their anger.

Let's not pretend that the problem is we just haven't had enough calm voices expressing well reasoned and well articulated opinions. The fact is CG is going to do something about it when THEY feel like it's a problem. Player sentiment has rarely played any part in their decision making process as far as I can tell - and I've been playing attention for a very long time.

Fair enough.  I still think that, while you may be right and constructive feedback might not do the trick, if they're ever gonna be the least bit receptive, it won't be towards comments like FIX THIS NOW ON YOUR WAY TO DIEING IN A FIRE!!!1!!ONE!!

One last point. I understand when a ship or character comes out and they make a change in the game with at least some investment, that makes sense. Look at what Lucian did for Rebel Fighters. But one ship at 3 or 4 stars?

Personally, ships to me doesn’t satisfy anything. It just isn’t interesting enough like the toons. Then the capital ships volume keeps outpacing regular ship growth and evolution. It could use a complete overhaul to make it more interesting.

  • I am convinced all of this was done for a reason.  Not enough were investing into Leviathan.  GAC/TW fleets were not holding.  Players were too easily reaching top payouts.  This change cost players crystals for fleet payout, meaning they will need to spend some to make up for the loss and spend more resources into fleets in order to keep with the status quo.  For the same reason with the GAC squish, slowly take away crystals from players where they need to make it up elsewhere.  They need to increase revenue and one way of doing this is slowly taking away the free crystals players were receiving.

I, too, have thought the same thing.  There are just too many examples of changes being made to the game where the net result is fewer crystals able to be earned by the player base.  And since there has been no indication from CG that this was not their intention, one can only be left to assume these changes were made to impact the crystal economy.

Assuming the above is true, there are 2 ways they could have gone about this.

      1. communicate to the player base that the game economy is not where they intended it to be and there are a series of changes that will be made to bring it back in line.

      2. do what they did and either not say anything (ie skill squish) or say they want to protect player investment in Levi, and do the exact opposite.

With option 1, players will be angry.

With option 2, players will be angry AND feel the changes were sneaky/slimy, and ultimately trust is eroded.

Option 1 would have been better for CG and the player base IMHO.

"The person in the number one spot in ships battles has a r7 malak and r7 sith trooper."

They don't have Leviathan then. R9 Malak is a requirement.

You are correct. I meant Malgus who is only required at r7. Good catch though.

Very articulate.  But when CG controls the coin and it gives players less reward, they are fine with it.
