You might be right. I was looking at it through the prospective of the past few weeks since the change. Lemme give you an example, I am gearing up scorch to G13 for the raid, and relic'ing up traya and co to r7 from R5 at the same time, which coliseum makes possible. Before when the 2 mats were available for MK3 currency, I was able to keep up with them easy, and get the g12 to 13 gear woth MK2 at the same time. I can't do that anymore. That's what I meant by it's relic or gear, not both.
As for MK3 right now, I have absolutely 0 use for them except the zeta. Pretty pricey for a single zeta, but I have nothing else that I can buy with that currency. well I could buy the r8 and 9 mats, but for small spenders, r8+ are pretty useless on most characters (except for the likes of bane, Ezra, requirements for GLs, etc..)
And 4k MK2 for a single R5 to r7? That's dozens of g12 gear. Meanwhile MK3 is sitting at 17k for nothing. Look I would like is that those 2 mats were available against MK2 currency and MK3. I get that some players use MK3 for r8+, but most don't. I mean r7 is where it's at for me. The EC are painful, 3k currency is lots, and to get them from that scrapper (whatever it's called) takes g12 gear... Anyway, it is how it is. Was just wondering is all
Absolutely with you on how the change would hurt many players if they weren't simultaneously changing the gear required for new toons.
I also would be happy to see the both currencies compromise implemented. I mean, I don't think there's any way it could hurt anything. But I stand by the idea that we don't know how those changes will play out once the new marquee system hits its stride.
Meanwhile, if I were you I'd be buying r8 mats. I've been purchasing for r10 not bc I have any plans to r10 any toons, but bc at some point they're going to require r10 for the next shiny. So I'm slowly building up my stash of r10 stuff and hoarding it until needed. Maybe you would benefit from preparing now for r8s later? Just given current conditions -- not saying I know your account better than you, and recognizing that if they implement the dual-currency thing you would be going back to r7. But stockpiling r8 now would keep you from running into the cap, and as you say, the zetas are not well priced.
